With Baker holding out, is TE a late round possibility?

Kentucky's Jacob Tamme is one of my favorite players in this draft...if he falls to Round 4 or 5, he would be a nice pick.

Jacob Tamme is a lot like Baker: They are both receiving tight ends, and average blockers. Tamme could come in and fill that void immediately.

Also, the Jets' staff showed some interest in Louisville TE/H-back Gary Barnidge. He is also an average blocker that is a solid receiver.

With the DRob trade, anything is possible. I'd like for us to package some of those 4th's to get back into the 3rd tho if possible. If not, I'm sure they'll address the TE need with the picks we've acquired in this trade.

The Jets are getting a conditional pick in 2009 for D-Rob. No picks this season.

...at least that's what Schefter is reporting on NFL Network. I hope we get at least a 5th rounder in this year's draft though.

Tamme would be a perfect fit for the Jets. Academic all-conference, very little dropped passes, tries hard on every play. Mangini would really like this guy.

A good TE would help out Clemens/Pennington big time.

I hope we look at some undrafted basketball players again, I know that the chances are low but who knows, this year seems like some lower quality TEs, we should have looked at one with one of our late picks last year. They seems to be higher quality and with playing time could get a good shot at being a top 10 TE

Last year? Baker was supposed to be a solid starter, and he wasn't demanding a trade. Barnidge and Tamme should last until the 5th round...unless a solid defensive player like a cornerback or a defensive lineman is available, TE could be a helpful pick.

Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez are the only former college basketball players that have excelled in the NFL at TE. I might be leaving someone out? We don't really use the TE much in our offensive system, so I doubt any type of TE would be ranked towards the top if he played on the Jets.

Martellus Bennett (EDIT) from Texas A&M would've been a lottery pick in the NBA if he didn't decide to play football over basketball...but he'll likely be the first tight end chosen, and we have greater needs than a TE.

I hate to say it, but if they go with Clemens, they really need to give him a reliable TE. Baker would have been serviceable, but not with a big deal behind him.

What about drafting Fred Davis in the 2nd? Yes, there are "needs" at CB/ILB/FS, but the passing game needs some big-time help as well.

I don't think Gresham declared for this draft.

We can't take a TE THAT high...especially someone like Fred Davis, who is only a threat in the passing game, and not a good blocker. We have too many needs, like CB, ILB, and maybe even a WR to take a TE in the second round.

We can draft someone of equal value to us, like Jacob Tamme or Gary Barnidge or Jermichael Finley much later in the draft. All of these guys can contribute in the passing game.

My bad, I got him mixed up with Martellus Bennett from TAMU. My brains are scrambled right now from all of this studying I've been doing for finals...

I guess that is my point a TE like Davis will have more of an immediate impact that a WR in the 2nd round who would at best be a slot WR.

We can package a 4th with our second and get back into the lower end of the first. I think we will see that happen to grab a QB. 36 and 102 would get us to 29. 36 and 113 would get us to 31.

I thought we needed a TE before Baker started crying. Baker has been in the doghouse with Tangini because he talks too much and has frequently been the "anonymous Player" bad mouthing this regime. Turns out he wants a new contract all along, what a surprise! His agent is on acid if he thinks the Jets have to do anything with him. To compare him to Pete Kendall or Lavernius is laughable. Baker has been trying to paint the Jets as a team that doesn't take care of their players for a year, turns out its just him(the Kendall thing clearly was about them wanting Faneca). Rhodes got a great deal and LC got guaranteed money.I'd role the dice and grab Jermichael Finley in the 4th if he is there. He'll be as good a pass catcher as Baker the day he steps on the field. We already have some guys who can block.

Looks like the FO really did want a pass-catching TE: Dustin Keller, welcome to the New York Jets.

I never thought we would be in striking distance of Keller. I hope he mows down Harrison or Bruschi this year.
