First, I was a huge fan of taking a CB in rd 1 (McCourty). I never thought Kyle Wilson would be available. Everything I was preaching about a CB in rd 1 was almost verbatim from Tanny's and Rex's comments about Wilson............ "3rd CB a huge need, great special team player". I was stunned to see Kyle Wilson available at #29. Here's my take on Wilson falling and how everything fell into place for the Jets: #7 Browns: Decided on Haden over Wilson. Some Scouts had Wilson higher than Haden. #10 Jags: Don't need a CB, take Alualu..pushes a player down to the Jets. #11 49ers: Trade up a few spots for Anthony Davis (bad pick). Could have taken Earl Thomas and possibily Wilson. #17 49ers: I thought Wilson would be gone, with Earl Thomas off the board. Iupati the pick, great player, but another O-lineman???? The 49ers needed secondary help. #20 Texans: Wilson is gone, it's a lock...hold on. Kareem Jackson is the pick. Jackson is a good player, but not better than KW. #23 Packers: Have CB needs, but Bulaga falling helps the Jets. #25 Ravens: Wilson is gone. I was resigned to seeing K DUB being a Raven. Timeout, Ravens trade the pick......Tebow is selected. #27 Pats: Finally pick, Oh my God...they took McCourty. You never can tell with Belichicken, he sometimes passes up the BPA for his player. I love McCourty, but Wilson is a level better than McCourty. Cards/Miami....I felt confident that they weren't going to pick a CB...D Line was a huge need for both. Worried these 2 teams may trade out. I could not be happier with KYLE WILSON at #29.....could be the biggest steal in Jet's history. How often as Jet fans do we hear the word steal when the Jets are drafting??? Thanks TANNNY/REX!!!!!
I was more concerned about Odrick falling to us. I'm a Penn Stater, and having him fall all the way to 28, and get selected by Miami of all teams was like a kick in the sack.
Loved the pick was surprised he dropped down to us. I'm looking forward to tonight I think there will be a lot more wheeling and dealing especially with players being involved in moves. I hope we get some DLine help this round there's a lot of talent out there still.
I Thought after haden, Wilson was going to be selected but with Jackson getting drafted then McCourty over wilson for the pats suprised me i was pretty shure he would be our guy.
nHaha, WW85, that was like my exact play-by-play watching the draft. I thought the 49ers would nab him. Then I thought Houston definitely was taking him as a gift! OBVIOUSLY the Ravens were going to steal him...right?? Pretty soon I was doing the countdown.."Oh god, 4 more picks to the Jets...ok, just last 3 picks...2 more picks....holy shit, he's gonna drop to us!"
Toon...we were on the same page. I've been following the Jets drafts for years and the addition of Rex has made it very exciting . Sanchez, Greene...now Wilson.
I was there too fellas. Finally, when NE was on the clock, I'm like please no, not them. With the fins I'm on the edge of my seat. Having two division rivals right in front of us was almost too much to take. I can't wait for tonight.
I was heartbroken when the Pats took McCourty, until I realized K-Dub was still alive. The fact that he made it past Houston, Baltimore and New England still shocks the Hell out of me.
I know, having MIA and NE directly in front of us seemed like worst-case scenario! Once NE took McCourty I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that at least 2 of the Big 3 remaining on my list (Wilson, Kindle, Odrick) were going to be available. At that point I was just hoping the Jets would keep the pick instead of trading down, since the value was so great. Worse yet, I was nervous that they'd keep the pick but take someone else....the draft was so insane, it seemed anything was possible.
I just kept watching the draft and wondering, "Why are these teams passing on Wilson?" And not just Wilson, but players like Alualu being picked at 10, Dez Bryant falling down to the 20's to suck up another draft pick, Tebow being taken by Denver instead of Baltimore choosing. I felt with Williams, Odrick, and Wilson, the Jets were going to get a hell of a player. I just kept my fingers crossed, and everything still ended up falling perfectly for us.
I couldn't believe two other corners were taken before Wilson. Absolutely baffling. Someone was looking out for us, and if we were going to take a corner, he's the only one I'd have been truly ecstatic about. The only thing that could have gone better is if Baltimore hadn't traded out and had taken Odrick instead of dropping him to the Phins.
I believe we needed to adress D-line first and foremost but Im happy with the pick whether it was a tactic to keep him from going to the colts or just wanted to take who was the best player available I feel like we did that, I agree with the move Im not worried about the Odrick pick, if we were so concerned about getting him or someone better like Pierrepaul I think we would've delt Leon and moved up Im breathing pretty easy now boys, Just kick back and relax the leagues best secondary just got better any passrushers we add to it is just a bonus meaning hurried throws = more INT's instead of batted balls Whhhoooowwhheeeee that nickle and dime is going to be stout!
I'm absolutely stoked. I only liked three CB's in this draft, Haden, Wilson, and Jackson. I would have been thrilled with any of those CB's as a Jet. Luckily, we somehow got the second rated CB by most, as a Jet. How does that even happen? I'm thrilled. I am not a McCourty fan at all, I thought he was bad in coverage and lacked ball hawking skills. I'm very happy we don't have him on this team and the Patsies do. Perfect.
There was no trickery to it. He was by far the best player available at that point, and we needed a CB at some point in the draft. Even if Odrick were still there, Wilson would have been the better pick.
Our CB corps and our WR corps are mostly off the chain now..don't know which one is better..I am guessing CB...
