Are the worst owners in MLB. I cannot believe they are bringing Minaya back for another year. The Mets haven't made the playoffs in years' past and I contribute that to Minaya who is the worst GM in baseball. With the quality of players we have on this team, we also need another manager. Yeah, we've had injuries this year that really hurt us, but my question is WHO THE FUCK IS THE TRAINER? If all our top players, pitchers are getting injured, then the trainer is NOT doing his job. This team is pathetic...so are the Wilpons.
I was thinking the same thing when I read that and then I thought they either don't give a damn about the team at all or they can't afford to fire Minaya and pay him after everything they lost to Madoff.
I've heard it reported that this particular front office is the most dysfunctional ian all of MLB; until this is corrected, the Mets (unfortunately) will go nowhere....
Then maybe they should sell the fucking team... I can't believe how phony this franchise is. The we're committed to winning and we're trying to build a franchise bs only goes so far. The Mets have nothing in their system and I fear the window they had to trade F Mart (who I think is nothing more than hype) has closed. The Jays had interest in F Mart and maybe would have landed Halladay if they were willing to move him. I still have nightmares about the move to give KRod all this money when I was screaming for Fuentes who after a rough April has been very good for the Angels. They still neglected to bring in any depth and now it shows, the lack of talent in the minors is baffling and is also a major downfall to this team. When these clowns realize that they're not the Yankees and try to forge an identity of their own is when they will start winning with consistency. With the core of this team in place for a few more years I'd hate to say they are years away from winning but with the lack of a pitching staff, the lack of a minor league system and a lack of leadership they are. This was the year to break the bank on FA's and they brought in 2 guys to the bullpen when everybody who watched this team knew that the pen was part of the problem but it wasn't the only issue. They never addressed the corner OF position or the lack of depth...Jeremy Reed, Corey Sullivan? These guys are barely minor leaguers and their getting significant playing time... Tatis was a great story last year and I thought definitely earned his way back onto the roster but to rely on him for anything other than platoon duty was foolish. I'm holding out that Frenchy will have a great career in NY but my hopes are dim at best. I watched them get annihilated in San Diego 2 nights in a row (the 2nd the wonderful grand slam night) and I had enough. I haven't watched them since and I haven't checked their box scores since either... I'll always be a fan but this season above most have made it very difficult to be hardcore about it. It's not even the on the field garbage because teams suck, it happens but it's the off the field stuff that has bothered me the most. The handling of Benzanard and then Omar in his press conference calling out a reporter saying he wanted the job... that's bs and not something you do. He should have been fired on the spot for a lack of professional integrity but no... he'll be back to ruin another season of Mets baseball. It appears that our cross town rivals and divisional rivals are the favorites for the World Series so it's gonna be a long post season for us Met fans and maybe an even longer 2010.
The Mets are doomed for the forseeable future. This looks like the Met teams and management of the early 90's.. Inept and ineffective bordering on just plain stupid..
It's really a shame that Madoff didn't bilk enough money out of these clowns that they would be forced to sell the team. The Mets need to get rid of all the dead wood on the roster and trade Beltran, who's really the only guy they might get anything for with an eye towards competing again in a year or two. That will never happen though, they're just going to keep trying to patch together a roster that peaked in 2006.
The Blue Jays FO could challenge the Mets for being the most retarded in the league......I want to kick JP Ricciardi's nose through the uprights so fucking bad that it haunts my dreams. Minaya IS pretty bad though.
I've heard that their losses from the Madoff thing are as high as 700 million. If I were them to I would sell off Santana, Beltran, Reyes, maybe even Wright for the "right price" (heh heh). Their farm system is dry, and while those guys are all valuable, the status quo isn't getting it done. The returns from those guys would cut costs very fast and and the farm system back into shape very quickly. Probably never going to happen though because they have some retarded notion that they need stars to fills seats. The truth is wins are farm more important to long term attendance and trading those guys would bring in more of them over the long haul (assuming they choose the right prospects).
If Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Maine, JJ Putz are actually playing baseball instead of sitting on the DL we're not having this conversation.
Sorry Dave but I don't think most would agree that even with those guys in the lineup the team is nowhere near as strong as Philly, St Louis or LA. Even if Maine is healthy that still leaves 3 scrubs in the rotation.... when I saw Hernandez pitch in San Diego I wanted to throw beer bottles at him he was such a disgrace.
I agree with you Chris...this team had nothing. They dump money on Perez, who has sucked (6 runs in the first fucking inning) and didn't deserve the money he got, brought in Hernandez to be a starter and have done nothing to bring in backup talent. Minaya and Manuel are milking the Wilpons of all their money producing a shitty team on the field. I'm glad I'm not a season ticket holder for the Mets...I'd be pissed that my money is going to waste. I am reluctantly trying to save face and say I'm a die hard Mets fan, but I'm getting more grey every year when they continue to play like shit, make shitty moves and have such a dysfunctional ownership...kinda like the Dolans of Queens. I wish that someone would force ownership to sell the team, they don't deserve to own a New York team...maybe Kansas City, but not New York. I agree that it will be years before this organization even comes close to smelling the playoffs again. Even then, they might not deserve it.
While I think dumping a few of those guys isn't an awful idea I don't think you can get rid of all them. The 1st guy I would look to trade would be Reyes and the 1st place I would look would be Boston. They have the money to pay him and the farm system to give you something of quality in return... I also think Reyes is better and will long term be better than Green or Lowrie. I just wouldn't trust Omar to get anything short of fleeced in any deal he would attempt to make that would involve moving Wright or Reyes or Beltran... (they aren't going to move Santana). I could just see it going down like that episode of the Simpsons when they relocate to the houseboat on the lake because Sideshow Bob is stalking Bart.... Ok Mr Miniya so it's agreed then.... Jose Reyes will be traded to the Red Sox for a shoestring and a case of Malta Goya.
I tend to agree with Dave...Francouer, Pagan, Sheffield, Tatis, Hernandez, Castillo, Murphy, Santos....does that sound like the lineup we started with? If you saw that lineup 5 months ago, you would have thought we cut or traded a few players and that you were looking at the Padres or pirates lineup. This was the year that was going to make or break both Jerry and Omar. So many injuries led to a meltdown. If we took away Howard, Utley, and Victorino do you think the Phils would be in first? Philly has a better team than the Mets but I think they would struggle if they had to deal with that for a long time. Next year will be the last for Omar and Jerry to prove themselves. I am so ready for football to start! Cheers
