The Pittsburgh Steelers may have been dealt another big blow to what's already been a trying offseason.

Starting offensive tackle Willie Colon suffered a torn Achilles, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

    Walker: What's Next For Steelers?
The Steelers have a few options available to them if Willie Colon is lost for the season, writes ESPN.com's James Walker. Story

Colon will have more tests to confirm the injury on Tuesday, but the Steelers believe Colon needs surgery and five to six months of rehab, the source said.

"It looks like it's an Achilles [injury]," Colon's agent Joe Linta said. "We want to wait to confirm it, but that's kind of our worst fears."

Colon was working out in Pittsburgh doing agility drills Monday morning when the injury took place. Colon's injury was first reported by Scout.com.

Colon's potentially season-ending injury would be another big obstacle for Pittsburgh's offense to overcome in 2010. The Steelers traded receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets, and starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will serve a conditional six-game suspension to start the season after violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

Sorry to hear! But as a Jet fan this could help us.

When it rains it pours. Colon by far is/was Pittsburgh's best OLineman on a line that was below average to begin with. Now they'll be even worse. Good luck to Byron Leftwich and Ben Roethlisberger behind that line. I think Pittsburgh now HAS to start Dennis Dixon in those first 4-6 games because even though Leftwich & Roethlisberger are both statues, at least Ben doesn't go down as easily as Byron does. Gotta have someone back there who can move behind this line. I think this opens up the chances of Dixon starting big time.

Another reason why Pitt isn't making the playoffs this year.

That's one hell of a front office/coaching staff if they make the playoffs.

The dude is a beast though....sux for them, better for us.

    I'd rather play a 100% Pitt. squad.

Steelers RT Colon to miss season after Achilles surgery, agent says

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d818e5420&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

Pittsburgh Steelers starting right tackle Willie Colon will undergo season-ending surgery on his right Achilles' tendon, his agent said, confirming what NFL.com first reported Monday.

Colon's agent, Joe Linta, said Tuesday that Dr. James Bradley will perform the surgery Wednesday. Linta called Colon's injury a "classic torn Achilles," with a recovery time of 9 to 12 months.

Colon, 27, is eligible to become a free agent after the 2010 season, and Linta said his client would be open to staying in Pittsburgh.

"Based on my conversation with Dr. Bradley, this is a routine Achilles surgery and will not impact Willie's future as a player," Linta said. "There is no reason he will not have a 100 percent recovery, and this shouldn't impact his ability to generate a contract. He'd have to pass a physical, but his recovery time will put him on schedule to do that."

The Steelers had free-agent tackle Flozell Adams in for a visit Tuesday and could sign him as a stopgap replacement for Colon in 2010. Adams made five Pro Bowls in 12 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, who released him this offseason.

Steelers rookie offensive tackle Chris Scott, a fifth-round draft pick, also will have surgery Wednesday, the team announced, to repair a right foot injury that occurred while he was training in Tennessee.

Sucks for them... still Adams at RT might not be that bad.

Hope Scott's injury isn't serious... I liked him as a RT or G prospect...
