We are less than one month from the start of training camp, so I ask you: Will the Jets make the playoffs this season? Many factors will go into it: -Schedule -Who starts at QB. -How good the CB's will play. -Overall AFC Competition Nothing is certain in the NFL. If you have watched as long as I have, you already know that. However, I am going to give these teams playoff spots at the moment: 1. Denver Broncos 2. Indianapolis Colts 3. New England Patriots That leaves 3 spots left. One will be the AFC North winner (Steelers, Ravens, Bengals or Browns) and 2 Wild Card Spots. I think the Chiefs and Chargers will likely contend for them. The Bengals, Steelers or Ravens (whoever doesn't win the North), no one from the AFC South, and the Jets, Dolphins and maybe even Bills in the East. Both Wild Card spots should be pretty tight. I think the Jets have a great chance to steal one, but it will take winning a couple of early games on the schedule that most people would expect the Jets to lose. What do you guys think?
The personnel is there for a playoff berth. Rex Ryan is going to get a lot of heat for missing the playoffs for the 4th year in a row.
The Patriots? Brady on offense, Revis on defense, should be enough to win the AFC East. I hope I am wrong though.
Im not ready to give the Pats the division the way the Broncos and Colts are pretty much locks. They are still big favorites but compared to previous seasons they dont look as dominant. As for us 9-7 probably gets one WC spot. Just gotta take care of the tiebreaker situations.
Schedule: Week 1-Raiders-W Week 2-@Packers-L Week 3-Bears-W Week 4-Lions-W Week 5-@Chargers-L Week 6-Broncos-L Week 7-@Patriots-L Week 8-Bills-W Week 9-@Chiefs-L Week 10-Steelers-L BYE Week 12-@Bills-W Week 13-Dolphins-W Week 14-@Vikings-W Week 15-@Titans-W Week 16-Patriots-W Week 17-@Dolphins-W That does not look easy to me. Odds are they will not start out 4-6 and win their last 6 either, though possible. The final 6 all look winable. If the Jets could somehow split their first 10 games at (5-5), they could actually be in good shape. If they are anything better than (5-5), that is even better.
I think we have a shot at 9-7 because of the coaching, but the personnel isn't there yet, and 9-7 often doesn't reach the WC. I'm concerned about QB, Oline, and the Secondary in particular. First half of the season could get us in a hole, with a strong second half giving us a shot.
I think Jets will win the Raiders game and then go on and win at Packers to make a statement. This team will be good unless we see freak injuries to key players like Wilkerson, Sheldon etc. I see at least 8-8 as a lock. 9-7 is highly likely and 10-6 is not far fetched. This year, I expect Jets to be the Surprise team of the year. 2 years ago it was Seattle, last year it was Kansas and this year I believe will be Jets.
While I think the Pats will be hard to beat I am not ready to concede before a single game has been played. Who knows if Brady and Revis will keep playing at the highest levels? There are also injuries to deal with.
It's ez to call NE a lock, and they probably are, BUT brady is closing in on 40 and Revis is coming off his worse year ever. Their big nose tackle (can;t remember his name) is coming back and could be the difference in their favor. It's not like the Pats are young, talented, and have no ???. They're old, coming off injuries, and have just as many ??? as the Jets.
Next year perhaps with more experience working and playing in MM's system. This year, I highly doubt it as I strain to see an 8-8 record let alone a playoff berth. Perhaps if they had added two more WC's, the Jets could sneak in. 2014 is too early to think about a PO appearance. Give them another year or two, then dream the big dreams.
NFL turnarounds happen a lot quicker then you think. It's not too early to think about that. A few plays go our way last season and we get in.
If quick turnarounds were in this team's DNA, I would agree with you. This defense is PO calibre, the offense not so much. You still have to outscore the other team to win no matter how great your defense is. I see the Jet offense being PO ready in 2015 at the earliest.
That's very true, I agree with that - I thought the Jets learned how to win games late last year - very valuable experience. We have good coaching, and with good coaching I don't see a way that Jets team goes 4-12. We just didn't have enough talent. This is the 2nd year in the same system with the same coaches. Seahawks went 7-9, then became a true playoff team the next season. I don't see why with this defensive line, strong running game, and the potential of the safety tandem, why we can't win 9 or 10 games. I think we'll have a top 5 running game next season and I also believe Amaro and Decker will have productive seasons. We are ready to make the playoffs now. We gained a lot of valuable experience last season. Playing in close games. As long as players progress in the right direction. Remains to be seen, but I have a good feeling.
The guy you responded to is what we call a Debbie Downer. I don't recall him always being this way, but now he is. That is fine for him to be that way, but just letting you know.
I still think if the Jets can get ANY kind of performance out of their QB position (Whether it be Geno Smith or Michael Vick) they will be a top team in the AFC. The problem is I am not sure we are going to see it. If Geno steps up and becomes an above average QB, the question shifts from Can the Jets make the playoffs? to Can the Jets win the AFC East?
