Will the decision on chad still be made by tonight?

    With the league year now extended by 3 days, will chad's deal still be done by tonight? Since he's due 3 million tomorrow, they would have to make a deal tonight, yes?

    Good question. Not sure if the bonus he's due goes by the date or the beginning of the next season. My guess is they probably have until Monday but I'm not 100% certain of that.

    Again it depends on the language of the contract. If it states March 3 then he has to be paid that tomorrow. If it states the first day of the league year, then it is delayed until monday.

    Not if his contract states that his roster bonus is DUE on March 3rd and not at the end of the officiall date of the end of the past season.

    The bonus was due 3/3 because that was the start of the new league year. Now his bonus is due 3/6.

    Everything I have heard and read today indicates that the Jets are close to making a deal to keep Pennington. I for one am damn glad he is staying.

    Since no one has seen the wording of the contract, that can't be confirmed, but it makes sense.

    He's not due the 3M tomorrow, per se. He's due the 3M the first day of the league year. Contracts very rarely have hard dates in them in the NFL. They tend to all relate to the "beginning of the league year"

    This wouldn't work, and I'll explain why.

    If he is to be paid tomorrow, as a HARD date, the 3M would actually count against the 2005 salary cap, not 2006.

    He's due the money the 1st day of the league year... which is now 3/6.
