Does anybody else have this feeling that the Jets will lose Baker and then he will go somewhere else and be a fantastic tight end?

I have always liked Baker and thought why can't we get this guy the ball more, and why was Anthony Becht playing ahead of him?

Oh yeah, and he can block!

Well, because he was hurt last year. I agree with you though, the Jets should hang on to him. He's a fantastic prospect and has shown many flashes. The one thing that really hampered him was that big fumble he had. Otherwise, he looks like he could turn into a stellar player.

Well this would probably be his best opportunity to start...This and Arizona.

I think he stays, on a 1-year contract...

You're insane. This is a kid the Jets need to lock up long term. This is potentially the best tight end the Jets have had since Mickey Shuler. Don't tell me you'd rather have Doug Jolley starting?

I hope he stays. He is close to having a break out year.

Well I never said I wouldn't want to keep him. I just think he'd stay on a 1-year contract so he could possibly land a big pay-day. Because nothing in his short career would merit him a big contract...

Nothing in his career would merit him a fat contract. The Jets would be wise to lock him up to a 6 year deal while he is still cheap. We could probably get him for around 2 million a year with a marginal signing bonus if we made that kind of longterm commitment to him to start for the Jets over the next several years. This was one of Bradway's better picks, too bad it was wasted behind Anthony Shmuck.

We'll see if Mr. Schottenheimer has actually heard of using the TE in passing situations!

Um.... does a player named GATES ring a bell? I'd like to keep Baker, make Dreessen the long snapper, and cut Dearth.

For the record, wasn't Brian Schottenheimer the QB coach in San Diego, not the OC? He had nothing to do with tight ends.

  11. Baker is worth keeping around as a blocker and reciever. He has alot of potential and comes cheap.

Shottenheimer had a LOT to do with the offensive game plans in SD. Most team's QB coaches do. That is why the QB coaching position is considered the last stepping stone to the OC position.

I think we'll re-sign him and use him AND Jolley quite a bit next year ;)

Baker, Jolley and Dreesen would be tremendous for passing, from a 3 TE play action set....

If only the Jets had done something. Something to acquire a quality TE. Were there none last year in the draft?!?!?!?

I'd like to see him stay, but I have a feeling he wants to leave. Question is, do ManTan want him around?

Retaining our young talent....isn't that what a rebuilding franchise needs to do? Unless Mantan decides that he doesn't fit what they need, we should do everything we can to give him multi year deal now before he becomes a consistent force and asks for big money.
