Alright so now we got the 2 center pieces of our defensive line. So which of the two do you think brings more to the table ? Not necessarily this year, but over the next 5 + years
It could be the starting peices of a truly dominant defensive front for years to come or they both could turn out to be busts, but I say dominance.
I feel like Wilkerson showed enough as a rookie that hes pretty much past being a bust. Not saying hes going to be an allpro or anything, but worse case scenario is hes a solid rotational guy. My biggest question is how is he going to adapt to the 4-3. I mean this guy had some dirty numbers in college before temple switched to a 3-4, but Mo Wilk seems to be exactly what you look for in a 3-4 DE so itll definitely be interesting.
Based purely on the fact he will always be 1 more year in development beyond Coples, Wilkerson. Plus Rex has been gushing about his work ethic. Saying its something special, and reminds him an awful lot of Revis in the way he approaches practices. That in no way projects anything, but it never hurts to have the work ethic of the NFL's truly elite. Oh and can a mod edit the title to spell Mo's name correctly.
I truthfully think the big difference maker is whether we end up being more of a 3-4 team or 4-3. I mean right now it "seems" like were gonna make the transition to a 4-3 team, which probably makes Coples the more valuable commodity. But the more 3-4 we use, makes Wilkerson unquestionably significantly more valuable of the two.
Very similar players. Both of them have big frames to add more muscle, have long arms w/ wingspan, the ability to anchor & the athleticism to bend to get off blocks/make plays. Coples likely has more upside as he's alittle quicker & more athletic. Wilkerson is more stout, is a bit longer & more powerful. In a perfect world Wilkerson is your strong side end & Coples is your weakside.
At this point the best answer to this question is another question: In a straight-up fight who would you put your money on, Superman or Mighty Mouse?
If our ability to stop the run isn't miles better than last year, I'll be shocked out of my mind. Both of these guys look beastly. I already like what I saw from Wilks, if Coples can show similar progress, I'll be more than happy. I think we'll see both guys in various roles on the line this year. Don't be surprised if we see Coples play OLB or ILB in 3-4. It does seem to make sense that we do more 4-3 with this personnel. Rex probably feels like a kid in a candy store with this D.
I suspect they will both be very good D-Lineman - in the Shaun Ellis mold. He had some season with 9 or 10 sacks and was solid against the run. One or both could be better than Ellis but I think they will both be around as good as Ellis was in his prime.
Wilk played the 3 Tech over the Guard in college. With the 4-3 he will be getting more chances to play inside. Also with Pace possbily putting his hand in the ground more then 50% it should be nice
How would Muh be "unquestionably significantly more valuable" in a 34 than Coples? Coples was drafted for the 34 because he's an ideal fit, in fact a better fit than Wilkerson himself. In the same way, Wilk fits in at DT pretty naturally, unlike Coples who is a bit of a tweener. They're both pretty clearly versatile enough to succeed in either defense, which is why they're here. The one thing that should be determining who will be a better player is pure skill, of which Coples has more. Sure Wilk has an extra year, but that will mean absolutely nothing once Coples gets comfortable.
