+ = We didn't trade up 2 first round picks and a 4th to get a guy that didn't have a lot of upside. The problem with D-Rob was that he wasn't productive enough in college, nor was he healthy enough (bone-on-bone) to warrant that pick.
Totally agree with WW's comparison to Ty Warren. Same body type, same skills. I said that about him four months ago, and I stand by it. He's a great addition, but needs to be developed. The great thing about the Jets is that they rotate all 3 DL spots so heavily it won't matter.
I'mn very happy with the pick and he's exactly the type of line man rex covets. Able to play multiple positions and get to the QB in any of them. He has the physical ability to be our best pass rusing lineman very soon depending on if we bring back Elllis or not.
I'm listening to a podcast with Matt Williamson from Scouts Inc that was taped yesterday before the draft started. He's reviewing their "Super Fan mock draft" picks where each team had auditions via email for a fan to repent them in a mock draft. When they got to the Jets pick the Jets super fan said "I'm taking Wilkerson and calling it a STEAL." Williamson replied "yeah, I agree, I think that's a steal, too, but I don't think he lasts until 30 [in the real draft] though. One more thinghere with a lot of these teams we've talked about these last five picks or so: it seems as though all of them, including the rest down through 32, are all excellent candidates to move down ten picks our so because there have ben very few picks where I'm saying 'wow, I can't believe this guy is there, what a homerun!" But this Wilkerson pick probably does fit that mold." (forgive the typos, I'm transcribing on my phone with a beer in the other hand)
Robertson's upside was seen as another Warren Sapp. That was his upside. He was supposed to be a franchise player at what the time was a HUGE need. We all should've known what he was as soon as reports broke that Ted Cottrell danced in the war room because the Texans drafted Andre Johnson so the Jets could draft D-Rob. Way to go Ted!
