So the latest today is that the Jets are going to: Sign Pennington to a reduced contract Sign Kitna as soon as possible If these are true, then why would the Jets use the #4 pick on ANOTHER QB? It doesn't make sense to me. If the Jets sign Pennington and Kitna, and with Abraham on this way out, I think that the most likely picks are Ferguson or Williams at #4. The OL is a shambles right now Jones is a big Q at LT Kendall is OK There is no center Moore is ok at RG There is no RT (Cavka??) Plus all this Mangold talk is great, but you build an OL around a LT, especially when it comes to pass protection. I can't see how the Jets can neglect the OL any longer and a team wins games in the trenches. With Abraham gone, there is no pass rush, which makes Williams a real possibility. I think the Cutler, Leinart stuff is a smokescreen. Thoughts??
I agree. I doubt they are going to take a QB in the first round this year. I think it's a smokescreen, possibly to try and create value in the pick so they can trade down.
If Culter is there they will take him, and it's the right thing to do. Whenever you're in a position to get franchise QB you get one (unless you've already got one).
Chad is done as far as im concerned but I beleive if we draft Cutler Chad could really come on and have a great year this year beacause hes gonna realize that they will replace him if he starts to struggle. Look what happened with Drew Brees when they drafted Phillip Rivers. You never know.
I kind of doubt the Jets pick Ferguson only because of the rumors floating around that the Jets are going to nab Kevin Shaffer tomorrow... but we will see, I guess.
Yea we will see. If they get Shaffer we will draft Cutler then we could draft a RB with the other 1st rounder via Abe.
you are correct........this is all a smokescreen because the more they build up Cutler the more someone will give them on draft DAY.......we need to fill holes..ie linemen which are usually located in latter rounds of the 1st early 2nd..........
If Penningtom is resigned the jets should have the following QB's. 1. Pennington 2. Veteran Qb 3. Developemental QB Most likely a draft pick. It could be Cutler, Whitehurst, Vick in the 6th or 7th round, or Shaub. The Jets need all 3. But signing a back-up does dimish the need for a 3rd string developmental QB that could be the QB of the future. Shaub or Ramsey could fill both the 2nd and 3rd roles with the idea of they don't work out to draft a QB of the future the following year.
They had meeting with Cutler at the Combine and watched game film on him and everything when he was on the room and they asked him about situations of what he would do. Theres an article on it in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated.
No one comes out and announces what they are going to do, but when you see a lot of reports about how much a team likes a certain player, a lot of times it is stuff that was leaked out intentionally as a smoke screen. Maybe your right, and they really love Cutler and are going to draft him. I just think it's more likely to be a smokescreen, especially if they do bring back Chad and sign a veteran. Even with Chad restructuring, that would be a ton of money to commit to one position when you have a team with so many needs.
Youve got a good point but i just still think their drafting Cutler and i would like the pick if they dont pick him then oh well because we really cant go wrong in this draft. If they sign Shaffer then i think takin Cutler is almost a lock. Although i also read that his stock his rising at the combine considering Lienart and Vince are sitting out.
Exactly I remember they had DeAngelo Hall on at the combine and they were asking him if he knew that the falcons were going to draft him and he said no way that was the last team that he ever thought was going to draft him, because they didn't even talk to him once, he said they didn't even show up at his pro day. That's how you play draft poker and I bet Mangini does the same thing.
