Trubisky or Watson who do you want the Jets to draft if they pick a QB at #6?

Let me start off by saying you have to comparing apples to apples. And breaking down the players and numbers, Trubisky has more upside and did a much better job last year despite Watson winning the championship.

Deshaun Watson throws too many interceptions, and many were just bad throws. In the NFL the DBs will eat him alive and he showed lack of ability to read even college defenses. He had 30 Ints over the last two years and that’s throwing to top receivers. Clemson has a top 3 and a top 15 WR in this year’s draft. Add in a top 10 RB (Wayne Gallman) and a top 5 TE (Jordan Leggett) and he had the best offensive supporting staff in college. No other QB had close to the supporting players Watson had. Hell, Watson even had a top 5 Center giving him the ball every play and calling his protection.

Watson was not the reason he won at Clemson, his team and coach were the reason he won. I said the same thing about Geno Smith when he was in the draft. Look at the people surrounding him. If you have the best cast in college you should win.

Mitch Trubisky was the reason for his team’s success. There are three other offensive players from North Carolina which have a chance to be drafted, and they will be lucky to be called in rounds 6-7, if at all: WR Ryan Switzer, OT Jon Heck and OG Caleb Peterson. All three are rated between 25-30 at their position in the draft. A far cry from Clemson which will have 4 offensive guys drafts in rounds 1-2.

Mitch Trubisky completed 40 of 47 passes as a sophomore, 6 were touchdowns with 0 interceptions. As a junior he through 30 TDs to 6 Ints. Trubisky took an underwhelmed team and beat Pittsburgh, Florida State, Miami, and Virginia. Against them he averaged 76.7 comp%, with 13 Tds and no Ints. The same Florida State Watson barely beat and the same Pittsburgh team Watson got beat by. Watson through 5 Ints in just those two games against defensive Trubisky burned and played near perfect games.

Comparing apples to apples, Trubisky performed better against the same teams and he had a lot less talent around him. His ceiling is projected higher than Watson who might have had his best years in college.

I did the same breakdown on Geno Smith and Mike Glennon four years ago and said Glennon was the better prospect. The Jets drafted Smith who will be lucky to see the field this year with the Giants if Eli gets hurt, while Glennon is making $15M a year and will be the starter for Chicago.

But would you still like Mitch better if you knew that he insisted on being called Mitchell?

Seriously, the two of them bring entirely different things to the table. With a couple of years to groom them I'd prefer Trubisky. To play right away Watson. Not sure who the Jets prefer.

    I'd take him at #6.

If we take either at 6 we've made a big mistake.

I'd take Mahomes over both of them and think all 3 are better options than what we currently have on the roster.

What Watson has going for him is elite intangibles which I do believe mean something. I have been scared off a bit by his mph reading. I have no idea what it actually means as he seems like he has enough of an arm to make all the throws but it has scared me off enough.

Trubisky has a better arm than Watson and a tighter spiral which is critical in NY weather. He has a better Football IQ, and has shown more ability at reading defenses. If Trubisky would have had the Clemson WRs, TE and RB, no one would even be talking about Watson.

Why would we draft either at 6? Neither of them are good enough.

Trubisky is by far the better prospect. I'm not sure a QB is the best option at 6, but if the powers that be pick him, OK. I still would rather trade down and try to fill many of our missing parts. BAP may be an option, but who?

Trubisky makes me fear a Sanchez, Part Deux - too little experience. Watson could play right away, if necessary. I'm not saying Watson would be great right away, but in time I think he will be. But I prefer Mahomes over either. Still, all three are better than what we currently have.

I'll take the guy who shredded the best defensive in college football two years in a row. I'd argue that last year's Alabama defense has more future Pro Bowlers on the roster than the Cleveland Browns defense. Does it mean he's definitely going to be a good pro? No. But it's as close to a "known" as you're going to get. He reminds me of Steve McNair.

Can we have a neither option or yes I would consider them in round 3.

Neither QB is even a remote option at pick 6. The alleged Browns interest in Trubisky at 12 might even be a fake as who are they competing against? There appears to be no team that is contemplating taking any QB in the top 20 other than the Browns.

If someone seriously wants to overdraft one of these QBS trade up or down into the end of the 1st round.

Mac is about best player available that means these two QBS will not be considered until at least round 2 and with the depth of this year's draft round 2 would be a reach.

I don't buy the Jets interest in Trubisky. Never leave a stone un-turned.

agreed. watson, petty, and geno smith all have something in common.
college spread offense, one read system, abilty to scan field and go through multiple progressions is questionable.
only knock on trubisky is only one year as starter. just like the sanchise.
would rather pick this guy this year, then wait until next year.
do not want another usc qb drafted. i have yet to see one that has won anything in the nfl.

Agree, only knock on Trubisky is only one year as starter. He proved in one year he can face the same defenses that Watson did and beat them convincingly when Watson had a hard time, while throwing multiple Ints.

Lol at the posters who know how Trubisky or any other QB will turn out. NFL scouting departments can't get it right, and that's because most of it comes down to luck. Having just said my opinion is useless I like Trubisky then Watson and then Mahomes.

DC's have a ton of film on Watson. That enables them to game plan. Trubisky had no film...im interested in knowing how he faired after playing the same team twice or his stats in the second half of the season compared to the first.
