As badly as the Jets need a physically gifted, strong armed, young quarterback to run the show on the field, there is another reason the Jets will look to the QB position with the #4 pick this year... to make perfectly clear that this is a NEW ERA OF JETS FOOTBALL! Nothing will help usher in this new era better than taking a QB early. Picking a quarterback is a bold move which will set the tone for the players and fans and prove to everyone that this is in fact a new regime. Herm is gone and so are his player allegiances. No longer will we be keeping guys on the roster simply because Herm thinks they were nice, caring people. It's time for a change, and it starts with the man under center.

(I AM NEW TO THE BOARD, BY THE WAY!)

Welcome to the board. This is the best Jets site around.

Unfortunatey, this thread has been posted many, many times. However, your first post and Thread is better than many.

Hope to hear more from you.

The only Quarterback that Herman was overloyal to was Vinny Testeverde. He shouuld never have been on the team last year but there he was, fumbling games away for us. Pennington was our starter. Herm should have known not to start him the beginning of this year, but that isn't over loyal, that is stupid.

Bringing in Vinny was obviously stupid, but it was also entirely predictable. Starting Pennington on opening day last year proves Herm's overwhelming loyalty. If he'd have swallowed his pride and started Fiedler, things might have turned out differently.

Yep. I am relieved that Herm is gone. When it cam to making an intelligent decision there was no intelligence, hence no decision.

Welcome but I have to disagree with you.
on this board, won't be the last time. LOL

The Jets do not need to make a BOLD (ie: risky) pick. This new Front Office cannot gamble on Cutler or Young. Lots of upside..lots of downside.

They need to make a SMART pick.
Draft Ferguson..and stick him at LT for 10 years as an anchor in rebuilding a line.
Any QB is no good running for his life or throwing in 3rd and long because we have no running game.

two things that you fail to realize though. One is every player in the draft is a risk, there is no such thing as a gaurantee in the draft and that includes DBrick, who contrary to what you may believe is a risk also.. Next is if we do take a QB in the 1st, that doesn't mean we are not gonna try to fix the line as well. The smart thing to do would be to target the OL through FA..

I certainly agree that the draft has risks..of course.

    But who in free agency?
    Bentley? he'll go to Eagles
    Shaeffer? Too risky

Who else do you have in mind?

I like D'Brick because by all reports he's the real deal.

I also would be happy with Mario Williams..Im just not sold on these QBs.

Each qb in this draft possesses a attribute which has me concerned. Young- arm, decision making ( he played in the shotgun 100% in college football), Leinart- arm Cutler- decision making and mechanics
