Similar to the Hill thread, why did we re-sign Aaron Maybin? If you guys laughed and said "we didn't resign him, he's on Cincinnati now", I'd believe it since I was in the UK the week leading up to the season and could have missed the news. Doesn't seem as though he's on the Jets anymore... I've been to the home games and watched the away games on TV and can't recall the last time I even saw him on the field. Is he injured? What's happened to the player that emerged last season? Where's Maybin??
They had to re-sign him. He had six sacks in 12 games last year, the most production we've had in years in the front seven in terms of rushing the passer. Their mistake, as okay as Coples has played, was drafting another 34 DE/43 DT and not a 34 OLB/43 DE in case he was a one year flop, which of course he was. Thankfully it was a miniscule one-year deal, so Maybin will be gone after the season alongside another two or three linebackers.
He showed a lot of promise and growth last year. He's been dissapointing this year but we haven't exactly had many opponents in obvious passing situations.
Per Cimini The issue with Maybin is playing time, presumably due to his struggles against the run. Its possible (speculating) that if he has a future on this team, it be as a pure 4-3 pass rushing end. And of course were still using alot of 3-4 for now
OK, so I won't blame Maybin then. The defense looked very good yesterday for 3 Q's and deserved a W. Even my wife said "they'll eventually give up yards from spending the whole game on the field and getting tired." How right she was.
Rex will make it seem like Maybin isn't producing but honestly, I'd play him every snap and see what happens
