    Marvin Lewis and Mike Nolan

Both of these guys were the defensive coordinator of the Ravens defense and they haven't turned out to be good head coaches. I am not saying that Rex Ryan can't be a good head coach. I wouldn't mine him being the Jets head coach, its just that the two guys named above are the reason why I am concerned about hiring him. Thoughts?

My first thought is, why the hell did you post this in the draft forum?

My second one, who gives a shit about other ravens DC that did not become good head coaches. Rex Ryan is not Marvin Lewis or Mike Nolan. Just because they sucked does not mean he will.

Mangini, Crennel, and Charlie Weis have all failed since leaving the Pats. Should no one ever hire a coach from New England again because of them?

Actually, Marvin Lewis was a damned good coach for a while. Then he and/or his GM decided they could employ 53 outlaws, and expected them to behave on sundays. Now no one on that roster gives a shit, and Lewis stopped caring, because he can't coach guys who dont wanna play.

Also, Nolan was given a #1 draft pick in Alex Smith, who for all intents and purposes, sucks balls and probably will never play again in the NFL. Nolan was forced, and required to play Smith. Finally he gets to bench him, things start out fine, and the team falls apart for 3 games and he gets canned.

That said I wouldnt want either guy as my head coach right now, but I think that Lewis was a good coach, until the players stopped caring. Remember he brought the Bengals out of the Basement. remember how bad the bengals of the 90's were? come on, they were horrendous, and Lewis helped change that image, hell he made them a postseason team for a while.

Nolan was a victim of bad drafting and just bad all around luck. Not saying he would have been good under other circumstances, but he had some times.

As said, not all the time do past results predict the future. Hell look at larry Johnson. When the hell was the last time Penn State produced a runningback? Forever and a decade ago right? Why else did he go after Willis Mcgahee and his completely destroyed knee which was beyond repair, meaning at best he would lose an entire season? the cheifs tabbed Johnson at #27 saying he was a gift to be there that late, and goodness lord, he has been great in KC hasnt he?

Yea...if Sexy Rexy is anything like those guys we're getting an older version of what we just had. A n00b at HC that still has to get used to being a HC.

I think he wants to stay a DC, especially in Baltimore.

My favorite DC to HC candidates are Schwartz and Spags. I prefer Schwartz.

If Ryan and Lewis get together to be our defensive braintrust, this team will have a monster defense. Go check out what Lewis did in Baltimore as the DC... wow.

Players love Rex and he is a driven guy who would fit well in NY. He has the personality to do it

I'd also like to remind you that his father, Buddy Ryan, was instrumental in giving this franchise its only SB win.... so why not hire the kin of the genius?

Good point. That'll probably be a big part of our sales pitch if we really want him.

If he brought Lewis in...well Lewis is a very good defensive mind IMO. He's coached both the 3-4 and 4-3 successfully, and as a DC he'd have alot less bullshit on his plate than as a HC.
