I was thinking about it, and I started to wonder if the stress and hassle of moving the entire team and operations to a new facility could be a major distraction in the days leading up to the opening game. It just seems like the worst possible time to make such a major move. Why did they choose this week to do it? I imagine it would have made more sense to move during the offseason, or early in training camp, or just wait until next offseason.
It wasn't ready until now and it is probably going to be less stress as most of the players must be living in NJ by now knowing this was coming.
Excellent point. I have been thinking the same thing. Most of these guys have to sell their homes and look for a new place to live.....why do it a week before the season starts? Like you said, the smart move would have been to do it the week AFTER this season ends.
I'm not understanding this. Up until this point, the players all lived on Long Island, practiced on Long Island, and stayed in a hotel on Saturday nights before games. It sounds like you're saying that the team lives at Giants stadium.
As Don said, everyone knew this was happening and when. It's not like they just got the news and all had to put their homes on the market before Week 1. If anything they'll be happy to finally have it over with and not be in limbo anymore, waiting to move. There's three or four extra days in between games this week, why not now? Would you rather they stay on Long Island all year and travel to the home games for another season? They'll finally have a normal home gameday like every other team in the league.
Do you think the players put there house up for sale this week and moved also. I mean all that stuff has been going behind the scenes for months and I am sure the Jets have a team of people assisting the families. I bet most players families if not all of them are settled in NJ already. Its going to be a great edge working in this new complex and the players no longer have to schlep back to NY
The players aren't going to have to lift a finger or put any kind of work into this move. All that matters to them is they will not have to take the long bus ride back to the facilities at hofstra after a game.
And Favre wants to go hunting in west NJ or PA. Did anyone hear Buttle last night? He asked Tannenbaum if it was a salary cap violation to tie deer to the trees for him.
Players generally live as close as possible to the training facillity, since the majority of the week the team was practicing at Hofstra, now Floram Park. I believe the Jet's moved this week to get the players settled, especially the rookies, to find permanent housing in NJ, since they have been living in the Dorms. It would make no sense for the 1st year Jets to make housing arrangements on Long Island and have to move again in a few months. Most of the Vets already made housing arrangements over the summer.
They showed a tour of the facility yesterday during halftime. I do not know when the Tour was filmed, but there was still plastic on all of the furniture and all the walls were bare except for TV's.
Like a grandmother’s house the plastic will stay on the furniture and you won't be able to put your feet up either. For Christ’s sake don't forget to use a coaster either. Were there plastic runners? I am sure most of these guys already lived in Jersey (and not just because of the move but even in years past). Hofstra was the time when they were away from their homes and not the other way around. I doubt this is a distraction, they will be so fing happy to be in a new training faclilty.
Those fields looked amazing. Can't wait to watch them in the facility... Way better than Hofstra.... but not the same.
Its probably more stress for the families than the players.... The players will be basically be living in the practice facilities (in their new high tech hot tubs). Its a total upgrade for them.
This move was done as meticulously as possible. I work in neighboring Madison and have heard from local business people and especially realtors that they were helping Jets players since the Spring (Mangold was building in Chatham). Don't think there is going to be a whole lotta stress. In fact, the Jets delivered signs, flags and banners to Madison township this week that all the businesses will be hanging up that say: MADISON WELCOMES THE JETS. (florham park doesn't have much of a center of town)
You actually couldn't be more wrong. Chad Pennington lives(d) down the block from me, and the Jets are all around the LI area. They only went to Jersey Sat nights. I agree the new facility will be nice for them, but i do think moving mid season is a distraction anyway you slice it. Should've waited until next year..
