Not necessarily saying he's as good as Sproles, but just thinking we could use him the same way. In other words why isnt he more involved in our offense? Couldnt he be used as a receiver same way as Sproles on the Saints? I think once you pass the ball to him at the 2nd/3rd level he can burst out for major yard gain with his quickness. McKnight has been impressive on the low this season and I dont know if we are utilizing him enough. From week to week the opposing team seems to overlook him, maybe set up a deep pass to him? catch them while they sleeping. Something effective unlike a short pass to John Connor for a drop.
Because Schotty absolutely refuses to run screens, tosses or run outside the tackles. You know, everything McKnight is good at.
It is just his second season, isn't it? Kid has some growing to do. Not every player is packaged up out of the box to be a stud. He is coming along and getting involved. Give it some time.
Agreed. But I'd like to see him play more than one offensive snap per game, and if Greene didn't come up limping McKnight's only snap would have been at WR Sunday.
He also refuses to package special players. Leon Washington should have been running the same suite of plays Andy Reid had for Westbrook. This is another one of the knocks on him.
I agree with this knock on Schotty HObbes!! Since our WRs are complete shit and get get a vagina's worth of seperation, why not dump it off to McKnight and see if he can break a tackle or two and take off. I have no idea why we dont do this
Doing this might require some new play design, and why mess with the perfection that is Schotty's playbook?
We have done it with LT and more times than not he did take off. Now he sits on the bench while Greene goes up the middle for -1.
Exactly.. all the short routes are already taken care of by all of our receivers. There's no room for screens or short passes to McKnight when 3 receivers run 4 yard curls right next to each other. Why mess with a good thing?
I all goes back to Schotty, not to mention we're not even throwing balls over 10 yards let alone schemes that NO use Sproles in. There isn't a single play over 10 yards on that sheet.
The Saints throw down the field. When you stretch the field, the runningback becomes a bigger weapon in the passing game because the defense is forced to back off. The Jets don't stretch the field. Therefore, it's hard to use the runningback in the passing game that much. The one game we opened up the playbook a little bit against Dallas, LT had a big game with checkdowns.
How is he wrong? Sanchez is horrible at throwing screens. The play design and OL play could be better, but Sanchez is inaccurate.
He's terrible throwing quick screens. A RB screen that takes a bit of time to develop would be a different matter. If he can drop and set his feet without having to speed his release, he'd be fine.
Fair enough, but they all count, and if the OL is releasing to block for the back, Sanchez doesn't always have time to set his feet.
Exactly. We try to throw RB screens like we're throwing a quick out in the flat to a WR. Give it time to develop, form an actual screen, dump the ball off. Sanchez is fine when he has to check down, so I don't see how it would be any different. Now of course, the o-line giving him the time to set the play up is a whole different story.
