Drew Brees book discusses 2006 flirtation with Miami Dolphins
    by Brian Biggane

Those still wondering how history might have been different had Drew Brees chosen Miami instead of New Orleans when he was a free agent back in the spring of 2006 are offered some first-person insight into that situation in Brees’ new book, Coming Back Stronger, which he co-wrote with Chris Fabry.

In Peter King’s most recent Monday Morning Quarterback column on SI.com, he passes on the details on Brees’ conversation with then-coach Nick Saban when the two discussed the possibility of Brees coming to Miami. King calls the episode “the most enlightening” aspect of the book.

    Excerpted from King’s column:

    hahahahahahahahahaha

We should thank God everyday that this did not happen. Can you imagine a division with Brees and Brady? Brees to Marshall would also be a pain in the ass.

We're tremendously lucky not only that the Dolphins didn't bring in Brees, but that as an alternative they decided to put all their eggs in the Dante Culpepper basket.

Yeah as a Jets fan living down here even I felt bad about what Saban did to the Phins.

Aside from maybe Lane Kiffin bailing on Tennessee I don't think anyone did more to single handedly skull-fuck a team than Saban did.

Well here's something NEP and NYJ fans can agree on. Thank God that Nick Saban is an asshat.

Dolphins fans aren't worried. Like Ross said, Henne will be the best QB the Miami Dolphins ever had, ever, EVER!

^ oh yeah forgot about him.

I don't know how people reacted to that in Atlanta but down here it was nuts.
If Saban had shown his face in Miami any time during that first year I have absolutely no doubt he would have been shot. Possibly by an elderly woman.

That's not the reason. Brees didn't go to the Dolphins because he's not gay.

It was a shit move also, but it actually worked out better for the Falcons in the long run.

He didn't so much blow as he did screw the Dolphins. I don't think it was a coincidence that Saban and Belichick are buddies and a few months after Saban left the Phins they traded Welker to the Pats. Belishit had all the internal scouting info he needed to know that Welker was worth a 2nd round pick easily and I think they were getting ready to drop a poison pill on him.

Bahahaha. Now I'm no longer sure that Petrino fucking over the Falcons was worse than Saban bailing on Miami.

If they thought Brees only had a 25% chance of recovery, I'd like to know what they rated Culpepper.
