The Oline is a very underated position and many sportswriters are too stupid to realize without them your offense goes nowhere. But the position itself is very overlooked and theres never stats for Olinemen which also hurts them.
I think it's pretty obvious why. It's not a glamour position, and not many fans focus on the OL during games. They wanna see acrobatic catches, electrifying runs, long bomb throws...not a fat man hugging a defender all day. Even though offensive tackles, guards, and centers are all crucial positions, they're fairly underrated as well.
Its also hard to measure how good they really are, I mean the only stat that people judge OL by is sacks allowed.
And the only time ANY offensive lineman ever gets noticed is when he gives up a sack or when he commits a stupid penilty.
McCullouch was a wide receiver. (Offensive ends, split ends, and flankers are all wide receivers.) He caught 40 passes for 680 yards and 5 TDs in 14 games for the Lions in 1968. Guard John Hicks of the Giants was named NFC Rookie of the Year by UPI in 1974. Tackle Richmond Webb was named AFC Rookie of the Year by UPI in 1990. Also, The Sporting News selected him as Rookie of the Year.
