I'm not a fan of his at all, but one thing I can't stomach is a public protest over someone who, if he wasn't famous, no one would give a rats ass about. So what he is famous. We need to kill him? The stupid, and believe me I'm being kind, mayor of New York has to chime in and call for his prosecution to "the full extent of the Law". Please. Plax may be an ass whole but why is every sportscaster, or so it seems, ready to throw this guy in the same pod as Mike Vick. What do you think?
I think the mayor was talking more about how sometimes celebrities/athletes get deals that the normal Joe wouldn't get. And yes he's as bad as Vick, he was carrying around a loaded gun and worst of all he apparently doesn't know how to handle a gun, has he ever heard of the safety.
Because he's a famous athlete that thousands of children and adults look up to. He endangered the lives of hundreds of people with his irresponsibility. The least the rest of us can do is point it out for what it is. If you don't understand the value of human life, then I can't help you.
Both should be banned from football. these guys just don't seem to learn. ie- Chris Henry. They always seem to be welcomed back and it doesn't matter what they have done.
If I'm caught doing what he did, I don't get a second chance from my employer. I'm sure as hell not making millions of dollars doing what I do either...
If you were the mayor of New York, I'm sure you'd be thrilled one of your city's biggest football stars gets his name in every paper in America for going clubbing with a unregistered, loaded semiautomatic.. apparently with the safety turned off. Yeah, ok.
you don't understand it? He's a high profile athlete. What he does affects other people because they will look to him as a role model. Why I don't know but they do. When you something this stupid as a super bowl champion in the largest sports market in the nation, its going to be everywhere.
NYC is obsessed with gun control. Plax broke gun control laws. Remember, we need to stop the black on black crime in this country. The way the white Republicans don't care about black people and won't outlaw guns is shameful, its like bringing back slavery. Look at Europe, where they have gun control and the black homicide rate is exactly the same, wait, bad example. Look at Brazil where, wait, bad example.
I think that Burress deserves to be prosecuted and suffer through the due process of the law. Having said that, he doesn't deserve all the bullshit he's getting. The mayor is talking out of his ass, saying Burress must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law before knowing all the facts and then saying the Giants were tardy in contacting police (when in fact, they were not). He's trying to build a political career and distract people from a bad economy. He's also hurting the trial chances as, if this goes to jury, Burress' attorney could submit that this is a mistrial due to the jury pool being tainted. No one deserves to have the f*cking mayor come out and speak against them before all the facts have even been compiled. As for everyone joking about the safety (and it's awesome to joke about something that could have killed somebody) you obviously don't know handguns. Burress had a 40 calibre Glock. This gun has an automatic safety that doesn't have anything you slide or turn to work it. He didn't reach into his pocket and pull the trigger by accident; he adjusted his pants and it went off. Was it a stupid thing he did? Yes, absolutely. Am I proud the Giants suspended him and took a hard stance (as opposed to a team with a piece of shit owner like the Cowboys)? Yes. Does he deserve to experience the due process of the law? Certainly. However the last time I checked "due process" didn't involve becoming public enemy #1 before every even knows all the necessary information to pass judgment. But I guess the fact he wore sweatpants to a nightclub means he gets whatever he deserves. Please...
As bad as Vick? That is stupid on so many levels I don't even know where to begin. I'm just going to tell you you're wrong and hope you figure it out on your own.
Well, despite the massive amounts of schadenfreude (stemming from some pretty obvious sources) it's nice to see that some people think that Burress is being treated somewhat less than fair. Again, I'm not defending him for being an idiot and breaking the law. But it's quite a stretch to say he deserves all he's getting.
i get more pissed about a guy like plaxico because he has an opportunity most can only dream about. any of these athletes who get in trouble with the law are pissing on the people who work their asses off to try to get the level of success these athletes enjoy. give a guy like wayne chrebet or wes welker, or any of the other countless guys who succeeded without the perfect body and natural talent, plax's body and skills and they go down as one of the greatest of all time. instead a guy like burress or mike vick take it all for granted and waste the talent the were lucky enough to be given. thats why i get more irritated when an athlete does something that could ruin his career like this
His past history is why he is getting what he is getting now. Do you think if it was Pierce and not Burress who did it, the outcry would be the same? Of course not. Really, it's pretty simple to figure out. The guy is a bum who has quit on his team when it suited him. He did it in Pittsburgh and he has done it in NY. That gives him little sympathy with the general public who follow football.
Yeah, legally registered arms. It is also a responsibility to handle those legally registered arms properly. He didn't.
