I think this is great. I'm definitely in favor of scrapping as many pre-season games as possible. And I wouldn't mind seeing a 17th game. The NFL is correct to broaden its horizons; American Football is the best sport in the world and it's time the rest of the world got a taste. NFL Europe was an inferior product; we need to sell them the real deal. American Football in the Summer Olympics by 2020!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stupid idea in my eyes... 16 games works perfectly and while it would be nice to see a shorter preseason, it would just create a disaster for teams. Injuries would be added on, because in preseason week 4, 95% of the NFL starters either play a series or not at all. so that is another week of hardcore football exposing them to injuries. Then for the terrible teams, AKA the 07 Jets, that is just one more week of torture because their team is just that bad. Then you have the "races" for the last playoff spot on either side. allready we have so many tiebreakers in place that an extra game wouldnt really make a difference, if they still are tied tiebreakers come into play, if they arent tied anymore, than big whoop the team that goes in is more likely to have been the team that had the tiebreaker anyways...
The only thing worse than playing an NFL football game in England is... playing four NFL football games in England. Apparently American money isn't good enough for the league now.
I like it, say the Patriots cheat in the right country, Bolivia or somewhere. We could see firing squads.
i like it, i wouldnt mind crossing the pond to watch a jet game either. i'm sure gus could show me around anyway
I don't know enough about all of the economics to say whether this is actually a good move for the NFL in the long run - I doubt it, since I've seen very little evidence of interest in the game itself outside of North America, but perhaps I'm mistaken. I don't see any way that this is a good thing for fans of the NFL in North America, however - these are games that virtually no one could go to, played under strange conditions at strange times for reasons that have nothing to do with the game itself.
Well with the dollar is tanking like it is, They'd take the euros & the pounds for 80,000 people rather than dollars.
The NFL is too much of a national sport for them to try to Globalize it... its like shoving soccer down our throats. when the novelty wears off, this is going to be a huge blunder.
Argh! (Here I go) The rest of the world isn't bothered by the NFL. 80,000 people whilst is a good attendance is crap when you compare that to a population of over 55 million. I would say that most NFL fans in this country went to wembley, which is great for them, but I want to watch games from the US and if I want to see a game I can pop on a plane and join in.
I think the biggest blunder of it will be how it affects the teams that are flying to the other side of the Atlantic and adjusting their training regimens a lot because of it. The NFL season is short enough as it is without adding something like this into the mix. I don't mind the globalization as much as I mind them sacrificing the integrity of the game to sell jerseys in Europe.
Well, if it means 1 more regular season game, and nobody is losing a home game, than I am all for it.
Who gives a flip? As long as I can still watch from my comfy booth at my favorite bar whilst swilling PBRs with my friends, I don't care if the games are played on The Moon. SO what if The NFL gets to collect a little bit more Moon Money? I still get to get drunk and eat hot wings -- and then barf on my friend, Rob.
Hypothetical, let's say they do this and the first year 3 teams go to Europe and then all 3 teams lose their next 2 games after the overseas trip. The following year the Jets are in playoff contention and they make a trip to Europe and then lose the next 2 games and miss the playoffs that year by a game. Would you give a flip then?
