If first 5 picks involved Mariota, Winston, Cooper, Williams, and Gregory, what you would do as Jets GM? This is a tough one for me. I was initially leaning towards Flowers. We need a RT big time. He's a mauler, and still athletic enough to eventually replace D'brick at LT. FA isn't exactly stacked at OT either, so this solves a big need in both the short term and long term. There are other OT's worth considering here in the draft as well. But the more i see of both White and Fowler, i think you can make real cases for either. i actually like Fowler more than Gregory, and have been starting to lean towards him as the choice. What are your thoughts? This could be a very tough, and very important choice to get right.....should the draft fall this way.
Flowers reminds me of the cement they use to make sure a body never starts to float. In this situation I'd pick White but wouldn't complain about Fowler.
Man it's gonna suck when Winston, Mariota, White & Cooper go off the board in first 5 picks. I like Fowler a lot but I at the very least want an offensive superstar with our 1st this year.
Where do you see the two receivers going? I would assume you have Mariota and Winston going 1 & 2, only needy team at receiver ahead of us is Oakland. Jax just drafted Lee and Robinson and Blackmon is coming back. Washington has Jackson and Garcon. That leaves the Raiders, who may not even take a receiver with reports of them being all in on Randall Cobb.
Ideally, the Jets would be able to trade down and get more picks. If that isn't possible, I'll take Fowler to improve the Jets pass rush. If the Jets take Flowers in the first round, I'd be upset. There are much better options on the o-line than him.
Collins, Sceriff, Fisher, Clemmings, Humpries, and Erving for starters. If you had a chance to watch him in the combine you would know that Flowers is not a first rounder.
not even a first rounder? i think that's a little bold. there's really nothing in the combine for oline that would rise or drop a player that significantly short of attitude. he benched more than any olineman i believe, and had a predictably slow 40 time. not sure he even did the other drills, as i cannot recall him in any, and don't see scores listed for him. i'd be amazed if he didn't go at least top 15, or even slides past the Giants. Collins, Clemmings, and Peat are all interesting. Scherff i really like, but believe he is a Guard or maybe a RT at NFL level. i just can't get past the short arms playing the blind side. he'll be a great G or RT i think. just hard to justify a top 6 pick w/o LT ability. if we trade back somehow, he'd be high on my radar. the key question i don't know, is what type of line does this CS want to assemble? there are reports the Jets are interested in Carpenter in FA, who is not a physical run blocker. it's possible they prefer athleticism over size and power. that makes it a lot tougher to predict who might interest them, if any of these guys.
Flowers has little to no lateral movement, he is stiff as a board. We already have a bunch of linemen that can run block, we need guys that can pass block as well.
i think he'll be a good RT. but i do have concerns about whether he could ever play LT for the same reasons. for him to go as high as 6, i'd want eventual LT projection. not sure it's there.. more i think about it, Scherff probably is the cleanest Oline prospect. just not a LT either....but the Martin comparisons are valid, and Martin was the guy i was dying to draft last year. wouldn't surprise me if he went top 10.
The best LT prospect is TJ Clemmings but make no mistake he is no where near NFL ready. He will be a huge project with huge upside.
