Out of all the college players going into this years draft, who would you most want to see go to the Jets? By that I mean, which player do you like on a personal level that you would really like to see on this team? The reasons don't necessarily have to be Jets need based or even talent based, you could just like the guy because his name is Joe. I would like to see B.J. Raji come here, he was such a beast in college despite getting double teamed all the time. He's also a Jersey guy. I know we have Jenkins and as you can see I'm a big fan of his, but like I said team needs aren't a criteria in this thread.
David Bruton, safety, could do a job, and he is a ND boy, I'm a massive ND football fan so having one of our guys on my NFL team, couldn't be better. Also he is a happy guy, and just looks like he likes to have a laugh.
I'd like to see the jets draft Michael Crabtree. I think he'd be fun to watch for years to come. I think he could be a Calvin Johnson type player also no matter where he goes.
Eh, Calvin Johnson was about as polished as they come coming out. Crabtree's a lot slower than Johnson, and I don't think he'll be able to get the same separation. His hands also aren't nearly as good as Johnson's, regardless of the amount of circus catches he may have made. I certainly would welcome him as a Jet, but I think he's overrated because of the system he was in and the weak reciever class and will be way overdrafted as a result. That being said, I'd take Aaron Curry in a heartbeat. We won't even get close to sniffing him, but he'd be perfect in the middle of our 3-4 or anywhere in the LB corps in any potential 4-3 alignments. He's truly the complete package at LB.
I really like CB Vonte Davis or the CB from Ohio. I assume that the Jets will sign both Schott and Leonhart from Baltimore. I wouldn't mind the Jets drafting a QB I <3 Mark Sanchez...I think he is the best QB in the draft...but I think CB is a more pressing need. I think the Jets can go into the season with Clemens/Ratliff/Bomar/Ainge/...and maybe Leftwich
Best case scenario for me would be Sanchez in the first, Patrick Chung, and Dominique Johnson in the first 3 rounds. We get our Franchise QB, the best Safety in the draft, and a solid corner as well. Ideally, we'd sign a Bryant McFadde/Jabari Greer and take Jeremiah Johnson, Javon Ringer, or Donald Brown in the 3rd.
How about trying to pick soeone that will fall out of the top ten. I'd like to see us take Stafford, but its not happening. Of realistic players? Francishe QB - Sanchez and to a lesser extent Freeman. CB - Vonte Davis WR - Maclin or Nicks OLB - Everett Brown (though he may be climbing his way toward top ten range) OL - Michael Oher We should have a shot at a few of these guys at least with the #17 and I would not be upset over any one of them.
It depends on what happens in FA. I think a cover LB is still a priority, though one could potentially be found in round 2. The 1st round pick should be a WR, Maclin would be great if he's available, but if the good ones have been scooped up and Sanchez isn't around I could see a trade-down occuring.
I would really like for us to take Sean Smith and Hakeem Nicks, but I think either one would be a reach at 17 and probably won't make it to our 2nd round pick. Trade down anyone?
LB - Larry English (he could play any linebacker position in a 3-4 and SOLB or DE in a 4-3, I think he's a true football player) RB - Shonn Greene or Arian Foster. I love power backs and the Jets need one. I really wanted the Jets to take Tashard Choice last season, but shit happens. S - Darrel McBath. I mentioned him in the sleeper thread, and I'll mention him again here. WR - Honestly? Hakeem Nicks, due to the value. At the same spot I would take DHB over him, but with DHB expected to be a late first rounder and Nicks to be an early second, I think Nicks would be a much better value in this draft, and he would be Coles' future replacement.
I don't understand how there is so much DHB love, he is a down at first contact reciever and does not look overly impressive, also does not have the physical capability to fight for the extra yardage. Give me either of these two in place of DHB, the both are better fighters, punish the DBs on contact, I'll give the speed edge to DHB but everything else is tipped to the other two guys Nicks jukes and runs guys over and makes plays on his own. Britt is a fighter and never gives up, also usually shrugs off the first hit and has the ability to drag guys DHB looks like a bust to me, or a guy who moves around the leauge continually tring to re-establish himself
DHB can go up and get the ball. He can run down field and beat corners. I see him as Santana Moss with an extra four inches. Will he go over the middle? No. Jesus Mary and Joseph, no. Does this make him useless? Not by a long shot.
I may not make him useless but vastly reduces his effectivness. If your too soft to play in the middle in NCAA ball then the NFL is going to be a lot harder to make progress in. DHB has talent, but I do not like him at the 17 slot. Second round? Maybe, but he'll be long gone by the time we pick in the second.
Jordan Norwood. Either a 7th round pick or UDFA, but I know that he will be the next Wes Welker: great hands, good quickness, tiny. He will be a phenomenal slot receiver for years in the NFL.
I didn't say useless, just a little lower on the list than some of the other guys, I would still rather have him than Harvin Crabtree, Maclin, Nicks, Britt and then DHB I just don't really like his effectiveness after the catch, I have not see him juke, stiff arm, or bowl anyone over, he is great getting the ball, but then thats all your gonna get
