See, I got into a pretty good discussion with a friend the other day, we couldn't settle who one the 2002 SuperBowl. One said Bucs one said Pats (ofcourse they sandwhich our Superbowl with two of their own). See while the Bucs Superbowl was played in the year 2003, it was the 2002 season Bucs that won it. Makes for an interesting problem. On one hand you have a straight foward answer: The YEAR is was played, who won it. In which case in Feb of 2002, the Patriots play versus the Rams and won. On the other hand you have the 2002 Bucs, who were great, and went on to win a Superbowl. The 2002 Superbowl? Depends on how you speak, IMO. When you say the '72 Dolphins were perfect, you mean they were undefeated in 1972. By that logic they won the '72 Superbowl, which they didn't. They lost in Jan or 1972 to Dallas (just so happen). So when you think who won the Superbowl that took place in Jan 1973, you think of the 1972 Dolphins. So the 1972 Dolphins were champions of the 1973 SuperBowl. So I guess what we ended up with was: Who won the 2002 SuperBowl: Patriots. Who was the 2002 Champions: Bucs Pats won the Superbowl in Feb of 2002, but Bucs won the Championship of the 2002 season. Thoughts?
a non NFL fan who googled it would say the Pats.... everyone else would say the Bucs, tell your friend hes a moron
I go by the year the actual game was played in. The '01 Pats won the '02 Superbowl. The '02 Bucs won the '03 Superbowl
It can go either way. If you watch the whole season you tend to go by the season that produced the winner. But looking back in time, people tend to use the year. Like the Jets--everyone says 1969 but it was really the 1968 season. So had champ really been a fan then he would actually have called himself championsjets1968.
This is the only way you can tell are there two superbowls in one year??? of course not so you go by the year the superbowl was played so the pats won the 2002 superbowl so theres your answer no more said.... the call it the 2001-2002 season and so forth and so on
