It looks like orlando hernandez new wind-up is not gonna cut it after he got owned in his first outing. Who do you think will be the mets 5th starter
As I noted a while ago in another thread, I believe that Duque is done, so it's either Pefrey or other for me. I voted other just because Pelfrey hasn't shown much of anything either.
It's Lima time!!! El Duque is not done IMO. He had very strong year last year and was limited in what he could do his spring due to injury... when he gets his health back he'll have enough to sure up the back of the rotation.
I went with other, I have no idea who but they have to be better than what we have seen from Pelfrey this spring. Maybe they will have a tryout open to the public.
Other then being highly regarded when he was drafted Pelfrey really has done nothing to show that his name should even be included in the discussion. The guy has been awful.
The Mets need to look at the waiver wire when the some of the cuts are made this week. Otherwise, look for a veteran pitcher on the trade market capable of putting up 10 wins without giving up 5 runs a game. The Mets were dumb not to make a run at Josh Fogg or Kyle Lohse. The depth for the rotation is disgusting. Outside of Pelfrey and El Duque, the next guy to get called up if an injury goes down is Jon Niese, who will start in Binghamton and is only 21 years old. I'm sick of the Mets rushing their prospects to the majors. Omar has to make a trade or do something to fill this void.
Buttermaker was a lousy manager anyway. Leak would've undoubtedly been the best pitcher on the team but he gives the job to his daughter. Then when she gets hurt he brings in Rudy fucking Stein. Don't get me started on his lineup construction either.
Hey, she had a great fastball. Actually, I think we should go for Henry Wiggen ("Author") - he's a top of the roatation stud.
If you're not going to give Big Pelf the chance now or move him to the pen it's probably time to trade him while he has some value.
Jon Niese hasn't played in a level higher than high-A ball. This is the Mets problem. Bringing up their prospects too early, then they lose all their value. He's only 21...and you can't go by just what you see in Spring Training. 4 innings in the beginning of March isn't going to tell the story. I sure hope the Mets don't screw this one up and bring Niese up too early, much like they have done with Milledge, Gomez and Pelfrey.
