This is the game that made me a Jet fan. I followed the Oilers since my sister was living in Houston as they were a pretty decent team. I fell in love with the way the Jets came out and slugged their way against the favorite Oilers.

I do. One of the first Jets games I watched as a 9 year old. Right before the kickoff my father was telling me he had a hunch the Jets were going to win and was gonna call in a bet. He even had his hand on the phone and decided against it. Sure enough he was cursing himself once the game started ....

And what a comeback by Stabler ..... 4 TD passes in the fourth quarter. The Jets managed to win the game in OT.

That game was an example of how wild football was before it was spoiled by today’s rules and standards. That game was basically a wild crazy brawl of a game with turnovers, missed FGs, a lot of penalties, and still an exciting game to the finish. No mention by the announcers ( Marv Albert ) of how a particular turnover would cost the team the game, and how the kickers would be looking over their shoulders after missing kicks.....etc. Just good old fashioned football.

There's a tale there too - Richard Caster should have been a Jet for life.

Jets leading scorer and generally very solid, but he did make some kicks that were worse than the schlubs from the stands who used to be chosen to make kicks for prizes at HT, haha. My cousin used to go, "Only the Jets would actually consider this a halftime show."

I think the worst of Pat Leahy's career is when he missed a chip shot FG in a Monday Night game in Chicago in 1991 I believe. I still can hear Marty Glickman's call on the radio.

Bum Phillips, the good ol' days when an NFL coach could dress like a member of the Village People...
