is it rex or idzik whoever does it has done a lousy job------cant win without the players----starting with qb----then ol----then wr----then dl then secondary then lb fire the bums who selects the guys
You can't blame Idzik for players that were brought here before he was hired. I'm sure it was a combo of Rex and Tannenbaum.
well the scouts give the reports and idzick and rex look at the players based on those reports. so i would say it starts with scouting. idz and rex don't have time to scout every elgible player so their list starts with the players the scouts recommend. since idzic ha since turned over the scouting dept i would say its a bit premature to fire anyone else for draft results.
I think section134 actually picks the players and he's just using Rex and Idzik to deflect the blame. I AM ON TO YOU BROTHERMAN!
Well Tanny didn't really seem to change much when Rex got here, he continued doing his thing, so I would think more Tanny and now Idzik. I don't know where the idea that Rex runs our draft comes from. I'm sure he has input, but end of the day it's the GM (and if it's a meddling owner owner's decision) decision to make the final call.
Even Westhoff said, we are lacking the right personel, and thats being kind. I don't think he was speaking exclusively of special teams either. Is that on the Head Coach?
From my understanding Tannenbaum and Rex were in a collaborative effort to bring players in. Tannenbaum had the final say though. Idzik was brought in to make the decisions on the personal without any say from Rex. Woody realized what we all have realized, Rex can coach but Rex can not evaluate talent. When Rex coached the guys from Mangini's reign he succeeded. When those players began to leave and were replaced by the players that were drafted under him, it became quite apparent they were not matching the talent. Now the question is if John Idzik can bring in the quality talent. Idzik is not a personnel evaluator though. Idzik was the Vice President of the Seahawks. Idzik has brought in the correct guys that he feels that can evaluate the talent and give him the good advice on who to bring in. 2013 we were only one year removed from Tannenbaum so the blame still falls on him. Heading into 2014 the Tannenbaum excuse becomes much smaller because Idzik will continue to leave his imprint on the team. Next season we should begin to see a team with overall better talent and by year three it should be all Idziks guys running the show.
Yeah of course, it's why we picked Gholston, Revis, DeWayne Robertson, Bryan Thomas, and Jonathon Vilma all in the first round. Too much defense Rex!
Thats the point though imo. Tannenbaum allowed a lot input from the coach. Mangini really helped Tannenbaum bring in the talent needed. Mangini was clearly great at evaluating the talent but he was not as good as a head coach. Rex on the other hand has proved that he can coach, motive, create schemes to get the most out of players, etc. Rex though CANNOT evaluate talent, its quite obvious to. Idzik should have full control of the personal which I believe the NY Giants do in a similar way. Tom Coughlin coaches, Jerry Reis chooses the talent. Rex will be the coach, Idzik will be the one make the decisions about talent.
Its Idziks first year and the Jets have had cap issuses the last two years.Mr.T is responsible for the way this offense is.Next season will be on Idzik to fix the roster. The GM picks the players the Coach will make suggestions and the Owner will have some say but its suppose to be the GMs decison. But the coach has input because there success is tied together
Tanny also signed the contracts and made the trades. It begs the question why the GM bent towards both coaches instead of being the GM with the decisions. Is this the way Woody set it up, or was Tanny just letting them be?
I dont think Woody sets it up like that. Technically there is no right or wrong way about doing it. The relationship between the coach and GM is different in every organization. The Giants for example have a clear line between the who picks the players and who coaches them. Coughlin has little input on who is on the team and who isn't. Now on the other hand a team like the Patriots is completely run by Bill Belichick who has major input on who joins the team and who gets drafted. Both ways have been successful, clearly. The issue with the Tannenbaum/Rex relationship was that it was not working. Rex was gaining to much control and the result was not pretty (2011, 2012, 2013). The players Rex brought in, he has failed with. The players under Manginis watch, Rex had won with (2009, 2010). I think Idzik was brought in to create a relationship in which Rex has little to no impact on the personnel. The thought is that if Idzik can bring in the right players, Rex will coach them and succeed. The tricky aspect is that Idzik is NOT a personnel guy, but what Idzik does is he brings in his scouts/advisors that he knows will give him the best advice on who to draft and sign which worked in Seattle. I dont know the names of the guys who he brought in to advise him but it would be interesting to see there track record.
Based on the amount of cap space and the draft picks, in year two this will slowly morph into Idziks team. By year three this will be Idziks team and the last reminiscence of Tannenbaums players will likely be few and far between.
Woody may have set it up that way, but I think it had more to do with the fact that Tanny had zero player personnel experience. He is an accountant and attorney. He had been the Jets' cap guru and negotiating contracts. Why wouldn't he listen to the HC to find out what types of players he wants and who specifically he likes, since Tanny probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a potential HOFer and future UPS delivery man?
why does everyone say this? idzick made his bones scouting just like most g.m.'s the only reason he became the cap guy is because he has an ivy league degree in business. but he came up through the scouting ranks. this "he is a cap guy" is just flat out wrong
- Bradway claimed the full credit, in the 2012 pre-draft presser, for the move to pick Revis. That's probably the only reason this guy is still around. - Mangini has been given the blame for Gholston. The scouts didn't want him, but Mangini pulled some "power move" to persuade Tanny. - Rex, Tanny and Woody were all heavily involved in the process of drafting Sanchez. - Rex got ecstatic when Kyle Wilson become available and didn't want Tanny to try to trade down. - Rex said in Hard Knocks that he didn't have much of a say in the draft, except for the John Conner pick, which was his. Conner was picked the same year as Wilson. - Rex played a major role in working out Coples pre-draft. - Rex said last year that he wouldn't have picked Stephen Hill. This was after one of Hill's few good games. - Jets said both Dee and Sheldon were ranked in their top 4. Romurs said that Jets had Tavon Austin ahead of Dee. - It was clear in the post-draft interviews that MM played a bigger part than Rex in picking Geno. All in all it seems like the GM is calling the shots, while Rex is now mostly focused on evaluating the defensive prospects.
That actually paints an inconsistent scatterbrained picture of what is going on in Florham park. Too many people in too many places making decisions. There seemed to be a lack of a bigger plan, at least under Tannenbaum. Idzik deserves some time to let his "plan" grow before he too gets run over by the Jets Fan Express.
I agree with this but it's a collective effort. I doubt any team has one person agree on every single draft pick that is made. Even in New England I'm sure people disagree over who should be picked. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
