I don't usually like to put players down, but I absolutley hate David Barrett. David Barrett has been on the jets for about 2 or 3 years now and I really can't stand him. From what I have noticed he can't cover at all, he's either getting burnt, or playing too far off. He always seems to be in the wrong spot on the field all the time. For example, last year against the raiders collins was hit as he was throwing there for he threw a really bad pass (over thrown). The reciever was actually wide open, but David Barrett was playing so far off that he was where the safety should have been and he got an interception. Not to mention he can't tackle for shit. I think we should just give Justin Miller a chance to prove himself next year, at least we know he can tackle. Maybe were just not using David Barrett right or maybe it was the play calling, but i just wanted to see if I was the only person who noticed this.
Your not the only one I can't stand that loser either.I hope he does better this year but i seriously doubt it.
i wouldnt go that far, barret is a good run stuffing corner, i agree with you about coverage though, he is atrocious. He was brought in here to be the run stuffing corner, dont worry though, miller and dyson will most likely our corners by the time the year is over.
David Barret has shut down skills, the year before last he played his ass off. Hell step it up. I dont like to put current players down, cause if he turns it around ill be looking like an idiot.
Eh, the guy is really inconsistent. On some days, he'll be there step by step with a top WR, and the next day he'll be getting burned by some random speedster. I wouldn't mind if he was moved to nickelback, but he makes me nervous as a starter on the outside. Maybe some competition between Barrett, Miller, and Strait for the #2 spot will be good for all of them.
 How quickly we forget who our friends are. It was only 2 years ago that David Barrett played a key role in shutting down Antonio Gates and then single handedly shut down Plaxico Burress in the playoffs. He had a really really good year for us in 2004. I'm willing to give just about anybody a free pass for last year. The entire team was crippled and it's not fair to blame the healthy players who had 8x their normal burden for that. If Barrett can revert to 2004 form he would be one of the best #2 corners in the league (though he definately isn't a #1.) What I'm trying to say is give David Barrett a chance to rebound instead of handing his job over to Miller, Strait or some rookie because they have the great abstract, "potential."
I am in the belief that he was one of the players that suffered from not having a more strict lifting program set up by the coach... Barrett was a pure animal in 2004 when John lott was still here...He will bounce back next year.
David Barretts a solid corner. He shut down Hines Ward in the January 05 playoff game against the steelers. I dont know why everyone so down on him. I would like to see Miller start over him though because Miller has more speed to keep up with the receivers and Barrett would make a great Nickel back.
David Barrett has the ability to be a solid #1 corner, but he seems to be lacking in ther motivation department. Henderson got a lot out of him the year we signed him, but he has taken a number of steps back. You can call the periods of time he is solid flukes if you like, but I think we'll see him step his game way up once Miller starts challenging for the #2 job.
were u watchin the same game we were? barrett did a very nice job, agreed. however he was on burress, not ward hahaats_suck: ats_suck: ats_suck:
I will answer the question: YES Reason: He wasn't the only one who had a bad year, let's see how he will bounce back if we get more competitive.
Iv'e pretty much never liked Barrett. I still remember the poll I had where everyone blasted me for putting him down. Bastards...
He was good in the 2004 playoffs. I don't hate him, I believe he is a starter, just not one of the better ones in the league.
corner is one of those positions that you don't notice a lot. the only time you really see a corner is when he's getting burned or getting an interception. for the most part, when a good corner is doing his job, you don't see him. it is important to think about his shutting down plax and helping contain gates before you say he sucks. that being said, one play can ruin a cb's day. if you ask a corner how his game was and he responds, "i did great all day but got beat for a 90 yard td," that means he had a bad day. there are very few positions in any sport where one play can ruin a day and 10 bad plays in a season can destroy a season. imo, barrett is rather solid on most days, but he is streaky. sometimes he can shut down plax, other times he seems to get beat consistently. hopefully, mangini and the new cs will be able to help him improve into what he can truly become.
barrett has been decent overall, he had a good and bad season. I think he will bounce back this season learning from mangini. In the end he becomes our nickle back. end of story.
