Was having this discussion with a couple guys at work before..Luck got the majority of the vote. 2 Niner homers picked Kaepernick. I was the only one to go with Rodgers. His injury concerns worry me but no young QB , even Luck , gets me that worked up. Hope its safe to say nobody would pick Brady or Manning anymore.
I agree with you on Rodgers. Luck I can respect. Russell Wilson I would throw in as a candidate. Anyone who picks Kaep deserves to be laughed at.
Salaries don't matter, Aaron Rodgers. He's probably been that choice since end of 2009 if you believed in him. End of 2010 if you needed a SB from him. End of 2011 if you needed to see him repeat 2009.
Yeah Superbowl aside but Id probably pick Wilson over Luck. Might not be as talented but its close and he doesnt take as many chances. Luck has too much of the gunslinger attitude for me. Whereas Wilson reminds me of Brady. High praise I know.
It's not about this year. Or next year. If you're starting a franchise you have to look to the next 10 years. And as great as Rogers is, it appears Luck is (i) a lot younger (ii) a pretty damn good QB and (iii) massively durable. _
I always forget Rodgers is older than he seems since he sat those beginning years. Has 6 seasons as a starter but 9 years in the league and at 30 already. I'm still sticking with Rodgers because of the less football wear and tear than 9 year veteran would usually mean and because of how good he is. Matt Ryan if 2-3 years younger would be a really interesting option. If you look for that 25-26 age range, there are no "elite" or "on the way to elite" QBs. Stafford, Foles, Dalton, Sanchez, Bradford, Freeman. The list is pretty small when you think about it. Luck, Rodgers, Wilson. Then fringe candidates for Kaep, Newton, Foles, and RGII.
Foles had an amazing breakout season last year. That team is only gonna be better on offense this year. He doesn't even have to repeat but if he has a good/great year again then he elevates a lot from that 2nd tier pack. Even if RG3 has a great comeback season I think he'll never get into tier one because of his injury risk issue, which will always be a concern. Wilson runs a lot too but it's in more of an always evasive manner, he looks niftier to me and never seems to take a big hit. Newton I've been a hater in the past but he was a lot better last year throwing the ball and he's built like a tank so obviously still big potential there but his passing is not in the elite skill range like Wilson and Foles are.
The only thing I'm worried about for Chip and Foles is how quickly they can replace DeSean Jackson. He was able to really push the defense to the max because of his speed and quickness. You had to worry about him getting past you or getting the ball in open space which helped Chip stretched the defense horizontally and vertically.
Foles is a name that one of the Eagles fans brought up. Didnt say he was in that class now but said if he goes out and has an above average year and maybe wins a playoff game or two, people are going to look at him differently But I also remember him hyping up Kevin Kolb as the next Rodgers a few years ago so I'll wait and see.
Ill take Russell Wilson. I understand he has a stacked team around him but I believe in time people will realize that this guy is really good.
I think out of all the young QBs out there Im most interested to see how Wilson's career turns out. Like I said in an earlier post he reminds me a little of how Brady was when he first started in 2001. Not the most talented but confident , smart and has that "it" factor that not every QB has. Sure the team around him helps the same way its helped out Brady but Wilson has all the makings of a very good QB.
I see the same thing, he plays very smart, isnt asked to do much but what he has asked to do he has done right. No one has seen him run a high powered offense because he hasnt been asked to do so. A time will come when Wilson will be asked to do a lot more, right now it isn't necessary.
