In this world of free agency I know this has become a rarity but I believe to build a successful franchise we have grow and maintain our own talent. We may not be able to retire the players but how about keep them until they have coconsiderably declined skill wise. Like Shawn Ellis.

Or you could just edit that into an answer.

I agree that the team should seek to find great talent in the draft and then keep it, particularly any who turn into stars, unless they become a major disruption or headache with off field issues or holdouts. Any GM will miss occasionally on players, but those who are keepers should stay with the Jets for at least 90-95% of their careers imo.

I'm hoping Vernon signs a 1 day contract and retires forever a Jet.

So...is Shawn Ellis the only player that was drafted by the Jets and played the majority of his time with them? I know he didn't retire a Jet.

The last two guys I can think of who played a significant role is
    Bryan Thomas and Marvin Jones

Where the fuck is Shaun Ellis at nowadays anyway? He should sign a 1 day contract and retire.

Tanner Purdum as an UDFA was never on the Chiefs active roster, he could be a long time only Jet.

So much fail here it hurts.

Shaun Ellis played for the Patriots in 2011.

Played his entire career as a Jet, off the top of my head:
    Pat Leahy
    Al Toon
    Wayne Chrebet

No fucking shit, I just asked where he is today.

Ellis being in a Patriots jersey, I try not to remember that, he didn't do jack shit anyway with them. I technically consider him to be an All-Time Jet player. He should sign a 1 day contract and retire.

He should also be in the Ring of Honor.

theoretically chrebet doesn't fit because he wasn't drafted, he was a walkon.

no way in hell Shaun Ellis should be in the Ring of Honor...!!

I'm sorry to be so extreme and I like Ellis but I'd like to see 'Ring of Honor' actually be about honor. You put a guy like Shaun Ellis up there and then you cheapen the whole thing. You'll have to start putting plenty of other average to above average players up there. I just mentioned Mo Lewis- for example. It would be a joke to put a Shaun Ellis up there before a Mo Lewis.. and that's just one example. (i don't think Mo should be in either though)

Sorry its just a pet peeve of mine when organizations have these rings of honor and don't reserve it for truly special players... its bad enough the fuckin corpse of Leon Hess is up there

73 career sacks, going back and forth between 3-4 / 4-3. Gotta give Ellis some love, that was one of my favorite players. Why not both Ellis and Lewis?

I always feel, their contributions to the team short and long-term, how long they have been on the team - you certainty would have to consider the Ring of Honor. That's just my opinion. Fan favorites.

Was a big fan of Ellis, so excuse some of my bias.

I realize you knew the answer. The OP really wasn't clear. I thought he was using Ellis as an example of a player that retired as a Jet.
