Instead of making a thread every week for Jets mocks, I'll just make 5 here. All of them would satisfy me and are very realistic... The players off the board at #25 are below. Check out all 5 and my comments below... Off the Board at #25: 1. Brady Quinn QB 2. Jamarcus Russell QB 3. Adrian Peterson RB 4. Marshawn Lynch RB 5. Calvin Johnson WR 6. Robert Meachem WR 7. Brandon Myles WR or Jacoby Jones WR or Mike Walker WR (Long shot to be around at #89) 5. Kyle Young G/C/T or Allen Barbe OT 6. Matt Spaeth TE or Kevin Boss TE or Antwan Applewhite OLB/DE Which one is your favorite? For me, I like Draft I the best and Draft II the second best. NOTES: - Anthony Gonzalez is Mangini's type of guy. Did anyone see the interview he had on NFL Total Access this morning? It made me a believer and now I hope we draft him. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/wr/anthonygonzalez.html - The way I see it, WR, OL, DE or CB are our main options at #25. OLB is no longer an option because we have two very good and young players in Bryan Thomas and Victor Hobson. Both had great seasons. Plus, we just brought in David Bowens, who's a pass-rush specialist. - I like Kyle Young as a prospect. He has overpowering strength, great size, outstanding versatility, experience, football intelligence and intangibles. He should be around late especially due to a lousy 5.6 40-time, which means very little for an offensive lineman. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/c/kyleyoung.html - Watch out for West Virginia WR Brandon Myles. He has solid size and speed and didn't produce well due to West Virginia's rush heavy offense with Pat White and Steve Slaton. I'd love this guy in the 3rd round. He's a real sleeper. I saw quite a few WVU games and I remembered his name... http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/wr/brandonmyles.html - Questions and comments are appreciated. Thanks for reading!
Draft four is far and away the best. Jarrett's easily the best value, then Beekman is slotted right in at Right Guard, with a solid speed corner added as well. Chandler has a lot of potential, seems like the type that could adapt well to any offense, and Applewhite has a lot of athleticism. Young I'm split on, he's flat out too big, needs to get his weight under control, and any time a guy goes into his senior year and doesn't fix his biggest problem, I can't get behind him.
I dont think the Jets are thinking about Kyle Young he is 354 and that weight is 30 pounds more than our next heaviest o-linemans weight Clement, who by the way is 6'8. I remember hearing that Mangini want an o-line similar to Denver's.A slim o-line so that they would be able to move downfield and block better with ease.Young doesnt fit that description so mostly likely wont get picked. The best draft probably is #4, but honestly i would not be happy if the draft ended that way.Personally i think Day 2 of the draft should be strictly be picking the best player available not really by need.
I like 1, 2 or 4 but with silght differences so i decided to merge them all for a happy compromise... DRAFT VI (The Warhound7 Amendment) 1. Aaron Ross, CB - Even though I'm a huge Blalock fan, I'm also a Ross fan. 2a. Anthony Gonzalez WR - I think he can really flourish in the slot... 2b. Josh Beekman OG - He'll be the best on the board and thats really all we need on our line at this point. 3. Ben Patrick TE - Major sleeper as we all know. But if we all know him... is he a sleeper? Hmm... discuss, discuss. 5. Kyle Young G/C/T - Beefing up the line never hurt. 6. Antwan Applewhite OLB/DE - Everyone seems to love this guy.
That's fine, but Ben Patrick will not even get close to #89. My guess, he's gone before both of our 2nd rounders and even before Zach Miller. And to whomever mentioned Ramonce Taylor, I never included him anywhere.
Draft 1 or 4 are my favorite. If Jarrett's there at #25 and we choose him and continue through the draft with Beekman, Wilson, Chandler, Young, and Applewhite, that's a very, very good draft. Great value at most picks, and pretty much every pick fills a need as well. If we choose Blaylock and grab Gonzalez or Walker in the 2nd and then follow as above, I'd be really happy as well. Honestly, we're lucky because there's likely to be a lot of good value for positions of need at most of our picks (especially our first 3).
Draft 1 is strong, but a CB that the Jets are looking into is Tanard Jackson out of 'cuse. He'd go at #63. Character issues are a concern, but he is scheduled to have a private workout soon.
I'll be different , I like 4 & 5 the best. DRAFT IV 1. Dwayne Jarrett WR or Dwayne Bowe WR 2a. Josh Beekman OG 2b. Jonathan Wade CB or Josh Wilson CB 3. Scott Chandler TE 5. Kyle Young G/C/T or Allen Barbe OT 6. Antwan Applewhite OLB/DE DRAFT V 1. Justin Blalock G/T 2a. Ikiaka Alma-Francis DE or Justin Harrell DE 2b. Jonathan Wade CB or Josh Wilson CB 3. Brandon Myles WR or Jacoby Jones WR or Mike Walker WR (Long shot to be around at #89) 5. Kyle Young G/C/T or Allen Barbe OT 6. Matt Spaeth TE or Kevin Boss TE or Antwan Applewhite OLB/DE
I really like Jonathan Wade... I think there's a chnace he's around at #59. He has great potential and terrific speed.
Jarrett has to be a first rounder. You can't ignore that type of production because he ran a 4.6 40-time... Jerry Rice could probably tell you that. Jarrett should be off the board before Round 1's conclusion. San Diego shouldn't let him get by at least.
I'm just not a fan of Beekman. So any of the scenario's not including him, I prefer. I know it's narrow-minded to focus on one of the picks...I just don't care for the guy.
If Andy Alleman, Manuel Ramirez or Mansfield Wrotto were to be substituted for Beekman in any of the 5 drafts, what would your outlook be then?
