Which has the bigger upside, our WR Corps or Secondary? Both look like a catastrophe right now. We dont have a #1 WR and it looks like we dont have a #1 CB either.
I think both are problem areas that will be solved externally. We have to acquire more talent in both areas Kerley is a good slot receiver. Wilson is a good nickel corner. Hill and Milliner dont appear physical enough to be consistently good at this level but jury is still out. It appears Cro and Holmes are on the decline.
I have more faith in Hill getting better, than Dee. I feel like J Kerl is better than Wilson, or Walls. Allen is decent, but the rest of the secondary doesn't have much room for improvement. At least David Nelson is showing promise. It's like post #2 though.
WR by far. Kerley is a serviceable #3. Hill can stretch the field and gets better each game. Just in need of a true #1 to make other teams worry about. Our DBs? Cro is overrated and is showing it this season, Walls is a decent #3, Milliner looks completely lost out there no matter who he covers, and Wilson is awful. Our safeties are nowhere to be found.
Not suggesting we trade for him... just pointing out that if they let him go the pick falls to a 4th rounder.
We need to beef up our guards and left tackle (D'Brick has been God awful this season and last season).
TBQH we have no running backs either ya Powell is ok, avg at best with ZERO breakaway speed. Ivory gains 1 yard on 9 outta 10 first down runs. Goodson ya well that lasted what 10 plays...
I voted "Turd Smoothie"! (I'm still freakin' laughing though....) Dee Milliner is getting schooled...a lot more than he should this deep in the season. With Corners it's hard to tell, though. Either way I do not see much to be hopeful about anytime soon. Cro' is playing hurt. I'm sure of it...when they do the close ups you can see it in his eyes. But that is an opinion nothing more. Our WR corps is shit outside Kerley...although I can see keeping Nelson around. Holmes is done. I doubt he ever plays a full season again...there will always be a few games he misses. Cumberland is serviceable too but he should be the back up and not the starter. There is literally NOTHING else worth wasting digital ink about.
Its plain and simple when we win we look at the glass half full and all the avg players look great. yet when we lose there ain't nothing to hide behind and the flaws come out in full.
Problem is neither Holmes, Kerley, Hill, Gates, or anybody is a dominant #1 WR, and neither Cromartie (ATM), Milliner, Walls, and Wilson are #1 CBs (not exactly expected to live up to Revis)
I actually never liked taking CB with 1st round, shutdown or not. Bills did just that for ages - and see how that panned out. Or Gaytriots. Asante Samuel, their best CB of late, was a 4th round pick. Ty Law was a 1st round pick for Gaytriots - and that happened almost 20 fucking years ago. The problem I see is that, Jets have a very good pressure from the DL, but cannot follow that up with the attacks from the second line [LBs]. In short, Jets are still lacking talents all across the board. Now that DL is fixed, they can start fixing other areas. Provided the last year's low picks on OL pan out, they can start addressing the skill positions on offense as well.
The secondary has been getting their butts happened to them lately. I just don't understand why Rex continues to play man coverage all the time and the safeties are nowhere to be found on the deep ball when guys get beat. He needs to mix up some zone-man coverage with two deep safeties and even sprinkle in some creative coverage schemes because the CBs have been playing awful. Milliner is rookie but he already looks lost and not even worth that first round pick. He looks like another defensive player from Alabama that just excelled in college and will be another average so-so pro. I don't know if it's the playbook or injuries that have been plaguing him but he has two more years to get better. Cromartie has been getting beat like a drum too often. Outside from Allen, this secondary has a long way to go because they have not been making any plays especially on the deep ball. Our WRs are all young and they definitely have more upside then the secondary but they are nowhere close to being impact players that will bring defensive players to there heels. Kerley has been the reliable slot guy and Nelson has been a pleasant pickup and his 6'5 frame is a welcome addition. Hill is a speedster but he just disappears for long stretches in games. This offseason will be very critical for Idzik and the JETS because they have to make sure that they provide Geno with some weapons that will help him progress as a passer so this offense can continue to move the chains while also signing some safeties that can cover. But Rex has to disguise and possibly change their coverage scheme because they can't continue to play man-to-man coverage all the time.
