If Colon's injury persists ... who do you think will fill his spot until he returns? This is assuming that Winter's remains as the starting LG.
The one that performs better than the rest. Dozier just has that awesome offensive line name though so you hope he wins the job if that were to go down
If Aboushi can't hold off a rookie from a small school it would be pretty telling about both of those guys.
I think it comes down to Aboushi or Dozier ... and while i picked Dozier, Aboushi should have the leg up being a year in the system and coming from a bigger program in college. I think Schlauderaff has run his course with the Jets and won't be back.
Good question... It makes me wonder where Will Campbell is at since they thought enough of him to draft him as their 3rd OL in the draft and then stashed him on the back of the roster as an inactive all season. I'll guess Aboushi because he had a lot of experience in college and has a more-or-less redshirt season under his belt as opposed to Dozier, who's a rookie and will be switching from outside to inside, I believe. I also wonder what the deal with Schlauderaff is. He's been on the roster for a few years and was an undrafted holdover from Tanny yet has hardly ever played. I'd imagine it'll be a pretty open competition and hopefully one of these guys steps up. But it sounds like Colon should be ready for the season and TC, so hopefully the conversation becomes about if any of these guys has longer-term potential at OG for the team.
Because he isn't Dozier or because he is Palestinian? Either way it shouldn't matter - should be the best from ANY of our draft picks. Dozier might need a year, and Aboushi already has one in the bank.
I see Oday more as a tackle replacement. I expect Schlaudraff or Campbell to fight for the Guard spot until Dozier learns the ropes or Colon comes back.
Dozier (70) is a huge motherfucker, Aboushi (75) standing right next to him. Best case scenario is Dozier winning the guard job and Aboushi being our future starting tackle.
Someone reported earlier in the week that Campbell has a cast on his arm. Or did earlier in the week. Is he even practicing this week?
I voted for Freeman. The Jets were very high on him last year until he got injured in TC or preseason (don't remember which). He was a very good OL at Clemson and played both OG and C there. Aboushi has had a year and had a lot of experience at UVA, but is smallish and one of his issues last season was his lack of strength. I'm not sure that he'd hold up or be effective at OG. Dozier probably has more potential than any of the other candidates, but everyone seems to think he will will need a year or two to develop. Maybe he will surprise and not take as long to adjust to the level of competition as expected. Campbell may still be a project even though he's had a year. He never really played up to his potential in college, so while he has a lot of athletic ability and great size/strength, he may not have the mental makeup to develop into a quality OL. Brandon Moore was a very good DL in college, so for him it was just a matter of learning the techniques and nuances of playing OG, and yet it still took him 2-3 years to develop. He was able to get a lot of experience playing in NFL Europe. Campbell won't have that opportunity and he wasn't even a good DL in college. I'm hopeful he will develop, but not really expecting it. If Freeman or Dozier can't handle it, then I think the Jets will have to sign someone off the street or a TC cut.
I think it will either be Campbell or Dozier. Dozier is the popular pick since we just drafted him, and he's a decent prospect, but Campbell was a good DT at Michigan and has now had a year to learn the OL. He's a player, and I wouldn't be surprised if he grabs the job and is actually an upgrade over Colon.
The Jets kept Aboushi and Campbell on the roster last season for a reason; they must see starting potential out of at least one of them. I bet Aboushi steps up with Dozier learning the ropes behind him.
I voted Dozier. He's just got the perfect name for it. More than likely the competition will be at LG, however as Colon should be back by training camp. Aboushi is more of a tackle, but could probably fill in all over the line, similar to Dozier. I do like both guys as potential starters. It'll be good to see Oday get his 2nd training camp under his belt. Winters should improve as well.
My gut tells me Winters should see a big jump from last year. Kid has all the tools, but he did look like his head was spinning a bunch early on. He seemed to settle down a little as the year went on.
Winters flashed in some plays, then sucked in a number of others. I want to root for him because I think he can become a player, but throwing him into the fire could be a problem. I'd hate to see him move onto a team and become a great, after the Jets give up on him and go to the next unprepared young guy.
