Here are two different drafts by Jets commentators: Geoff Magliocchetti 1st Round (4th overall): S Kyle Hamilton, Notre Dame 1st Round (10th overall): WR Treylon Burks, Arkansas 2nd Round (35th overall): DL Perrion Winfrey, Oklahoma 2nd Round (38th overall): TE Isaiah Likely, Coastal Carolina 3rd Round (69th overall): IOL Darian Kinnard, Kentucky 4th Round (109th overall): WR Jalen Tolbert, South Alabama 4th Round (115th overall): LB Leo Chenal, Wisconsin 5th Round (145th overall): EDGE Deangelo Malone, Western Kentucky 5th Round (162nd overall): CB Jack Jones, Arizona State Andrew Golden 1st Round (4th overall): WR Garrett Wilson, Ohio State 1st Round (10th overall): CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, Cincinnati 2nd Round (35th overall): IOL Zion Johnson, Boston College 2nd Round (38th overall): DE Arnold Ebiketie, Penn State 3rd Round (69th overall): LB Chad Muma, Wyoming 4th Round (109th overall): TE Jeremy Ruckert, Ohio State 4th Round (115th overall): RB Tyler Allgeier, BYU 5th Round (145th overall): TE Cade Otten, Washington 5th Round (162nd overall): OT Andrew Stueber, Michigan Which would you rather have? I'd much prefer Golden's. It seems to hit all our needs with some consideration of positional value. My only regret would be missing out on Burks, as the detailed research of other GangGreen members has won me over to the idea that selecting him represents the best way to address our WR problems. And, for dog's sake, please let's make RG, not DT, a priority!
Woof...is neither an option? Part of me thinks I'd prefer Magliochetti's because IMO Wilson at 4 is a massive reach and that sours the whole thing for me. I don't love the idea of taking Hamilton at 4 either but it's much less egregious than Wilson. However, I probably prefer the rest of Golden's over Magliochetti's. You sub Wilson out with any of Hutchinson, Thibodeaux, Neal, or Ekwonu and I easily take Golden's.
Makes sense. Hell, I'd even add Burks to your list, although my preference would be Ekwonu (as killer guard to be groomed for tackle eventually) 4, Burks 10, McBride 35, and Ebiketie 38.
Yeah, I like a lot of the WR's in this class but I'm not touching any of them at 4. Once you get to 10, I'm fine going with Burks, London, etc. (whoever JD and the staff prefer) as I think that's when their value begins. I could even be on board with holding off on WR until 35/38 though because I think there's a strong chance one of the guys we think will go 1st round will slip into the 2nd. I'd be all on board with starting the draft going Ekwonu, Jermaine Johnson, and one of Wilson/Olave/London/Dotson/Watkins/Bell.
Hiking with the first one. I like Wilson but not at 4 and I don’t have corner as a big priority. Hall is a legit corner and Echols wasn’t a disaster as a late round rookie. I think saleh and jd will be very confident running that combo out there again this year. Particularly if the upgrade safety and pass rush.
I'd much rather Golden's draft. I agree that Wilson at #4 is a reach, and I'd prefer taking (if available) an Edge, T/G, or even Hamilton at that spot, and then taking Burks at #10, or Wilson there, depending on who's available.
I like Echols, and there is reason to hope that he continues to develop. However, he needs to improve a lot (PFF rated him 114th out of 116 cornerbacks assessed), and there's no harm in getting some competition for the second cornerback spot. I agree, though, that cornerback shouldn't be a big priority. I think EDGE, WR, TE, and RG (not necessarily in that order) have to be our first four picks.
neither really but overall Geoff's is better IMO. Really love the 1st 4 picks except for the fact it doesn't address edge. not a fan of the rest of his draft though golden's is the opposite. I hate the 1st 2 picks, but love the rest of the draft. if you took the 1st 2 from Geoff and swapped it with the rest of goldens it would be the best version of these.
It all depends on what happens in FA. It's impossible for me to answer in a vaccuum. There are things I like about both, and things I don't like about both. In Magliocchetti's draft, I love taking Burks, and that's about it. Winfrey is a great prospect and could be an exciting add to our D, but not taking an Edge until the 5th round is idiot level thinking imo. Hamilton's a great prospect, but I can't get excited about taking him at #4 even though he would help our D. I just think it wouldn't be the best use of draft capital and is a luxury we cannot afford. Likely, Kinnard and Tolbert are OK. honestly, I don't know much about them except they're pretty good prospects, but I can't get excited about them. I don't like the last 3 picks at all. In Golden's draft, I don't like taking Wilson over Burks, or taking Gardner, but at least both are great prospects, and I could be wrong about Burks being better than Wilson and about not needing a CB early. I love the Johnson, Ebiketie, Muma, Ruckert and Allgeier picks, I like Otton pretty well, even though many here don't think him a good prospect, and don't know anything about Stueber at all. With a gun to my head, I'd take the Golden draft simply because of the amount of talent that he added that I know and like
Give me Burks and sauce any day. Hamilton worries me as a prospect. I think he will play linebacker instead of safety at the next level.
