Honest Question here? Is he inactive? On the IL? Why is he not on the field and Cook is contributing nothing to speak of?
I could be wrong, but I thought he got dinged up in the pre-season. I hope it's not just JD trying to force his free-agent "prize" onto the field
Healthy scratch, Breece, Cook, and Carter are active. Cook is not contributing at the moment, but but Saleh says he is still getting his legs under him. I want to see Izzy too, pronto, but thinking Cook will get another chance against weak Denver defense. Saleh is very slow to replace veterans. Sometimes it takes an injury to get better players in, that's what it took to replace Duane Brown for instance. Another bad game against weak defense though, and maybe Saleh will pull the plug, who knows. Izzy looked really good in camp to just stay inactive.
Damn shame too. Saleh's loyalty to his Vets may have cost us Rodgers and now his loyalty to Cook, which may be a directive from JD to play him, is keeping Izzy off the field.
I doubt that it's a directive from JD. Nothing we've heard or read about how JD operates indicates that he has or would give a directive to Saleh. He seeks to build consensus and work with the CS. I wish that he would give directives. If he did give directives, he probably would have told Saleh to bench Brown before the season began and move Becton to LT and AVT to RT.
Jets paid cook way too much, now they are trying to force production out of their investment. At the cost of yardage and wins.
Hopefully, that isn't the case, but I can understand why you or anyone would think that. I hope it's because the Jets think that since he missed OTAs, TC and preseason, he just hasn't found his "legs" or rhythm yet, and they're giving him more time. Another game or two at most is all I would give him. Give him reps in practice, but play Carter and Abanikanda. If the Jets do keep playing Cook for a large chunk of the season instead of Abanikanda and Cook doesn't show any improvement, then I'll agree with you that they're playing him because they're trying to save face with Woody and justify paying him what they did.
4 games in. Quarter of the season. Time to put up or get out. Never needed Cook. it was like we had some spare cap room and just thought "why not" 7th rounder trashed us on Sunday Night. We dont need over priced has beens.
I hope they activate Abankanda for the Denver game and inactivate Cook. I have a gut feeling that Izzy could have a great game in Denver.
If I was Cook i would just ask to be cut or released. The only reason he came here was to win a Lombardi with Rodgers and obviously that can't happen.
I don't know if its "loyalty"--where is his loyalty to the team winning?--his keeping Ruckert under 10 snaps until last week was idiotic. He needs to go with this kind of "loyalty".
It's either deactivate Cook or MC1 since Cook is basically a 3rd down back at this point in his career. I'd rather them sit MC1. Controversial I know. Maybe I'm still pissed about that drop.
Not even close when you look at what was offered. The Jets gave Bell a top 5 positional contract if I remember where it fell correctly. $13 million and change per year with a strong 3-year commitment on a total of 4 years. He was also one of two huge contracts we handed out that year so it sucked up a lot of cap space. Cook was a bad signing but we gave him pocket change of what we had left several weeks into training camp with no commitment past this year. I still firmly believe they only really signed him to get us through 4-6 games (4 now since they’re gonna run Breece fully) until they were comfortable Breece was ready to go.
I have to disagree with you on sitting MC1. Yes, the drop hurt, but those things happen. He has helped the team more with his running, receiving and blocking than Cook has.
I'd love to see him in there too. Jets played some younger players more last week (Ruckert, Gipson, etc) and the offense looked fresh. Playcalling had a lot to do with it, of course, but the younger the better as far as I'm concerned.
It’s because short of an awful LT, the worst thing you can do to a young QB who doesn’t read defenses very well is to put a RB next to him that also has a learning curve on picking up blitz assignments.
He is certainly playing like it, but he is getting paid a good chunk. There is no way he is asking to be released and forfeiting the money. If he keeps playing like this though, he will get deactivated.
