OK , we all know who we like and think would be successfull, but would we be better off trying to trade down from #6? And is there a top tier pick that you really don't want to see picked by us?
I'd really like the Jet's to trade down, but I think there won't be many trading partners. If someone slips(DMC) the Jets' need to be ready to trade down. We might do better trading down in Rd 2 to pick up an extra Rd 3 pick. The really value in this draft is late Rd 1 & Rounds 2 & 3. Hopefully we can get a 3rd or 4th at worst for Vilma. This year's draft class is unique, there's no clear cut #1 player at the top of the board. In fact, IMO, the Top 5 or 6 players could go in any order. Miami is going to probably have to keep their pick and pay 30 Mill guar. for a player that isn't worthy of that kind of coin. As far as an Elite player, I wan't to stay away from....Dorsey, Ryan & Gholston. I'd take Both Long's in a heartbeat and DMC(with Minor reservations). Watch Mendenhall his stock is going to rise into the top 10.
Good points WW85 , everyone automatically asumes that trading down is confined to just round 1, I like the way you are thinking. I think that DMac will slip , but due to his commitment to the combine lets say , I can't see him slipping past 8 now. As you say there is depth right across the board, I'm sure that all the top picks want to stockpile.
This one should be pretty hard for us to screw up (but wait for it anyway). The biggest mistake we could make at # 6 is to reach for a player based upon his position. Matt Ryan and Kenny Phillips (or maybe a TE) would be poor values at # 6. Trading down in a draft this deep would reduce our risk (two players instead of one). If we stay put and take C. Long, J. Long, Ellis, McFadden, Gholsten, or a CB we come away with pretty good value.
Rhodes, if Gholston, Chris Long, and Mcfadden are all gone, who is going to move up to 6 and who for? If one of those guys is one the board, then we are more likely to pull off a deal. personally i would try to trade the pick unless Chris Long is on the board, if he is gone however, I try and move that pick to anybody, but most preferably Dallas for #22 and #28 and maybe an added #3.
hey man we're the Jets of course we'll make a great pick...yeah I'm pretty certain...well maybe a lil bit confident...ahh what the fuck we're the Jets of course we're gonna fuck it up...and with the 6th pick of the NFL Draft the New York Jets choose....this years bust...thats Mr. 30 Million Dollar Bust to you.
If we actually fucked this up somehow, I'd be right with abyzmul and other Mangini haters. But thats just not going to happen. Come on...we have the perfect pick. It's just outside the top 5 so we're not facing the pressure of being a top 5 pick. Theres a legit shot one or even two of Gholston, Long, McFadden, Ellis (if they want), Mendenhall, and Stewart. Plus theres always that surprise combine riser, though I'm not sure who that guy might be this year. It doesn't really seem like they can mess this up that bad. If we don't take one of Gholston, Long, or McFadden it's because had a choice between two of them, or they've already been taken.
Dorsey and Ellis don?t fit. I don?t think Ellis would make a big difference to DRob at NT. Ryan and Jake Long would be bad picks, too, imo, because we can?t give up on Clemens and Brick, yet. That means DMC and Chris Long are the only top tier players we should take.
Did you see the impact that Joe Thomas had for the Browns? If Jake Long falls past the Chiefs, he has to be the choice. He's a RIGHT tackle, and he'll be the best player available if Chris Long is off the board.
You know that a LT has much more impact than a RT, right? That?s why you don?t draft a RT in the top 20.
Joe Thomas played next to an elite LG too... I highly doubt Long makes it to pick 6 anyway...he had too good of a combine and all top 10 teams probably have OL problems.
Eric Steinbach is elite? He's a good guard, but I don't know if you can call him elite just yet...but he's an effective starter and Cleveland spent big bucks for the guy based on his potential. I don't think Jake Long will be around at 6 either, but if he is, I wouldn't be upset with the pick.
Every position on the offensive line is important. We already have a lot of money invested in center and left tackle with Mangold and Ferguson. Why not get them some help? Do you want Anthony Clement to be a starter on the Jets o-line? Jake Long gives Clemens a much better chance in the pocket than Clement does. The running game last year was garbage. The offensive line needs almost as much as help as the d-line. We need a guard and a right tackle brought in either through the draft or free agency.
Whoa...Steinbach's definitely an elite player and a top 5 LG. The Bengals missed the crap out of that guy this year. He's an elite pass blocker at the G position and a pretty good run blocker who can play the tackle positions in a pinch. He was signed because the Browns knew he was a very good, young OL player.
That's basically what I said. I still don't think he can be considered elite yet though. He has the chance to be. You said it yourself that he's an elite pass blocker, but only pretty good in the run game. He still needs to develop a little more power to be considered a top 5 ALL-AROUND guard. Phil Savage is a fucking good GM. He's bringing in a lot of nasty talent. The Browns should be good for a while. Stacy Andrews filled that Cincy guard spot pretty well, didn't he?
The question is not weither or not, we need to upgrade the RT spot or not, the question is, should we do it with the 6th overall pick. You say yes, i say no, here are my reasons: 1. the drop off of talent isn?t very big, expecially this year. Guys like Nicks or Chelerius (sp?) are very good RT prospects and we can get them in the 2nd. What Long has, they don?t isn?t that important on the right side, as it is on the left. 2. Value. A RT, G and C just don?t have enough impact on a game (single player, not the unit), that it would be worth picking one with a top 20 pick. Exept K and P, every other position on the team makes more sense.
