I really have to pinch myself to make sure this isn't a dream. The Jets have Brett Favre as their QB! (fifteen years late but he's here!) I still have one problem and that's our running game. Thomas Jones hasn't lit it up yet and looking at him at 3 practices I attended this summer his first step seems slow. We know it's a new OL but Jones lack of yardage in the preseason has me worried more then Favre's knowledge of the Jet's playbook. Our Defense looks ready except for one rushing play in the Giant game they were looking good. Gholston will be a project and I believe will not be a major contributor in 08' but I wasn't counting him to be our big gun. That title goes to Harris who I believe will be in Hawaii in 09'! What has you worried about the Jets for 08'? Is it our running game,Favre, defense or is it even special teams?
For me it's stopping the run (1a) and running the ball (1b). If we find a way to do both of those this team will go far this year.
right now it is definetly the running game, although at this point I'm not sure if T. Jones is the worry or the run blocking is. If we can get a consistent running game going the O will be tough to stop. Favre is the least of my worries, he is definetly here 15 years too late but like they say, better late then never.
None of our RB's have been able to run behind our line, Thomas Jones has little to do with the problem. Our pass blocking has been excellent, but the run blocking will have to improve if the team wants to make the playoffs.
I'm taking this as a Q about concerns about starting players not depth. Given that caveat, with the improvements to the line this year, and the upgrade at QB, I would have expected to see more out coming of the running game by now. On the D I'm not sure, there may be some things but that performance against Gints brings me to hold my tongue.
Our o line depth. Or lackthereof. Some big worries there. I'm not too worried about Thomas Jones, yet.
1) run defense - nothing I've seen suggests we've gotten better since last season 2) run offense - the OL looks good in pass protection but gets no push in the running game. And TJ sure hasn't impressed at all. 3) keeping Favre from being injured
Definitely injuries. I think this team can make a run, but if we get hit with injuries a possible dream season will end abruptly.
An injury to any of the starting linemen, especially the O-line. We can't afford to lose any of our O-line. I like our D-line backups more than our O-line backups.
I'm not real worried about the run offense because I feel like Favre can make enough happen on offense until the o-line gels to get that going. I think our secondary and front 7 on defense will be a strength, but I worry about our OLB's consistently maintaining contain responsibility. That seems to be where we've been the most vulnerable on defense.
