Watching the first half and seeing the O-line beat on most of Geno's deep drops..... and no changes. Got tired of hollering "use the 3-step and get it out quicker". It took until the 3rd quarter that the quicker, short drops were used. Then their D just played all receivers close and challenged for the ball....picks. Geno has to throw even the short ones higher when the D is shadowing receivers that close. A bad show and no visible changes in the O or the D. Somebody is sleeping.
MM was in a very difficult position today. The run game was just utterly shut down, and there was so much pressure on Smith that he was making tons of mistakes (especially since the Jets were down by a lot the entire game, which means MM had to try to get big plays to try to get back in the game.) MM wanted to go for deep throws to get back in the game, but I don't think it would have made a big difference if he had gone for shorter passes earlier in the game. The Jets came out very flat today.
Isn't coming out FLAT attributed to poor coaching? Its the job of the HC to make sure his team is ready to play on both OFFENSE and DEFENSE plus Special Teams. It seems that every time we have a big win the following week we come out flat. It dates back to beating NE in the playoffs and coming out flat vs Pittsburgh in the AFCCG.

The Jets are talent-starved at the moment. The let down wasn't in the scheme it was in the reality that the Bengals roster, which has been rebuilding for 3+ years now is just much better than the Jets. Next year the Jets may be where the Bengals were last year. The year after they might finally be as good as the Bengals are now. That's just what it is.
its not the OC's fault we are bottom 10 at every position. you can desgiuise bad blocking, bad recievers, bad qb play, bad hb play... hard to disguise all 4
With the Jets roster being what it is, they are lucky to be 4-4. ANd Marty is part of the reason their record is as good as it is.
Agreed. The fact that we have exceeded expectations thus far (winning 4 games as opposed to probably 0 to 2 which is where everyone had us pegged at) has given our fan base false hope that we are contending NOW. Yes, we can still improve by season's end (especially with the cupcake 2nd half sched we have), but at the end of the day we simply lost to a MUCH better team. Look at Cincy's roster, how it's currently constructed. Where do we excel against them? Our strength is our front 7, which Cincy can equally match. No one on our offense matches up against them at this time. Not at QB, RBs, WRs, TE. Hell, their special teams are better too except maybe Nugent (Folk is the man).
I think that coaching can only go so far. The O-line is not what it used to be, the Jets have no true #1 WR (Holmes doesn't count because he is injured most of the time), and the Jets have a rookie QB who is not used to playing in a pro-style offense. The Jets looked flat, yes, but even if they were playing at 100% they still would have been beaten very badly by the Bengals. The Bengals are just a more talented team in 2013, it's not even close. I know that the Jets will be great again, but right now they are a mediocre team that is surviving off of a great D-line, Rex's defensive playcalling, lots of field goals, decent RBs, and sporadic flashes of greatness from their rookie QB. The game didn't start getting out of hand until close to halftime, and it didn't make sense to abandon the normal strategy while the Jets were only down 1 - 2 scores. Smith needs to develop this year, and his QBing style is more oriented towards longer passes, so it makes sense to develop him along those lines, to take advantage of his big arm and long range accuracy. If he learns enough this year, and gets some more reliable targets, he can be a lot better next year. We all got excited after beating New England, and having the chance to be tied for #1 in the AFC East (if the Patriots lost and the Jets won) but we have to remember that this is a rebuilding year.
bad QB play and we are 4 and 4! Err I smell a Suckchez fan boy in th ehouse. Everyone said we'd be lucky to win 3 games. We were 32 out of32. I think Geno has provided a lot of thrills to Jets fans who do not have an agenda!
absolutely but even KERLEY said the team came out FLAT. FLAT teams have little chance to win no matter how much talent they have.
I don't understand why this is a complaint against MM. The defense came out, gave up a TD. Then we went 3 and out. Then the defense gave up another TD. We're not build for those games. We rely on our defense to make games ugly and our offense can grind out a last minute win. We're not going to win any games when the offense is required to score 2 TDs per quarter to catch up.
That's a pretty good point, the offense had the ball for 3 plays and we were already down 14-0. The Bengals are a pretty good team but Andy Dalton isn't the QB we let him look like yesterday. When put in an early hole this team isn't built to mount a big comeback. Last week was different because right out of the gate the D made a huge play to start the 2nd half. YOu can't rely on that every week.
Good points above. Good coaching can hide a lot of areas, but in the end talent wins out. Our offense has looked good against medicore/bad defensive teams, and we've looked anemic against good defenses. MM isn't the problem. The problem is a rookie QB and overall offensive talent. This team is starved for playmakers, simple as that. Look at our roster, who on our offense right now (save the o-line which has good pieces) would be playmakers on a playoff team? You could argue it would be no one. Not Ivory/Powell or any of our receives except Holmes (maybe Kerley has a #3/4 guy).
