The most likely option, in my view, is that we've played the Ravens, Packers, and Pats, the 3 best teams we've run into so far. That, and a bit of variance, should explain most of it. But I know there are other theories.

I doubt it's as simple as "Schotty's an idiot who tricks himself." It's not like there were tons of gadget plays failing; we just didn't execute. John Madden himself (kidding) couldn't have coached the Jets past the Pats last night.

Any other theories? Can you back up the claim that Schotty/the staff over-think it? Does this team react poorly to extra days off of practice for some reason?

The Ravens game was a 1 point loss, with a completely disoriented offense. We've had three games now where the O has been completely down syndrome (no surprise our 3 losses), and it can be largely attributed to Schittenheimer's occasional idiocy and Sanchez taking the unavoidable sophomore lumps, lest we forget the kid is still learning.

As for NE, I think it was just a complete domination in all 3 phases of the game. Nothing went our way, they got the bounces, Sanchez looked like a rookie again, Rex made dumbass calls, the passrush was severely exposed.... but in the NFL losses happen and everything changes week to week. Let's not jump to conclusions at 9-3, but we'll find out if we can hang with the best @CHI and @PIT.

    Yep this.

Also in terms of the poll, there clearly is a little bit of everything going on here. Coaches possibly overthinking things with the extra time. Or possibly underthinking things in comparison to their opponents. Let's say we put together a game plan in 4 days on a normal week, and on a long week like today we have 8 days to put one together. So we take our normal time to analyze and put a plan together, while our opponents (tonight and ravens game more so than GB off the bye) take the full 8 days to analyze and find everything they can use to exploit us with.

Either one could be just as likely. Also I think its fair to say the Jets simply were not prepared for the big moment tonight. We needed it more than they did. We needed the win to overthrow the dynasty and show the world we are a dominant team, instead we come out and shit our pants. We couldnt even punt the football 15 yards, thats how fucking afraid of the moment we were.

I love Rex Ryan and everything he's brought to this team. But, I think he's a bit too easy on his players. How many times have they come out flat against wretched teams like the Bengals.

Klecko said Ryan's "Loosey Goosey attitude" is a hindrance to this team last night during the post game and I tend to agree.

It's a little bit of everything. The coaching is probably the biggest problem. The team plays a lot better when the coaches don't have time to overcoach them. We would be foolish to think that the quality of opponents has nothing to do with it though.

Against the Ravens they wre soo conservative they never gave the offense a shot and on defense they committed like 10 penalties and handed the Ravens a TD. Against the Packers the D played solid but the offense kept trying to get cute with Brad Smith, got in bad situations, and ended up with a holding call. Killed every drive. Last night it was go with a no huddle for some reason...why would you speed the game up? You want Brady on the bench..last night was tailor made to slow the game down, run the ball, move the chains, and they went against that.

At least you made it through the night

I'll take this as a vote for that our opponents were good, and we're not that good option.

It's funny that the toughest opponents this team has faced have been after long breaks. That is with the exception of NE week 2. Anyway, it's a horrible problem to have. Maybe them not getting a first round bye is a blessing in disguise.

We're a little overrated. Its no coincidence that we lost to good teams this year. I doubt we would have lost to the Bills after a bye week. Overrated doesn't mean we can't make the playoffs and win some games. You don't have to look back far to see that shit happens in the playoffs.

It has nothing to do with overrated. It's that the team just can't put it together. This league is a blob of mediocrity this year. The Jets are a top team because they're just better than most of the league.

I'll admit, the defense isn't that great this year. No pass rush and now with Leonhard out, our secondary outside of Revis & Cro isn't all that great.

The offense, with all of their talent has become worse by the week. If the offense could play like they did in weeks 2-4, this team would be one of the top teams in the league. I think after week 4 they were ranked in the top 5 offenses. Since Holmes came back, IDK if they just completely changed the offensive philosophy or teams have figured them out. Something's changed though.

    It still shocks me...
    Keller weeks 2-4, 5 TDs
    Keller weeks 5-13, 0 TDs.

It seems that teams have been working pretty hard to take away Keller. With that, we're really struggling in the red zone.
