I don't really watch college football, but from what I've heard, he seems to be good. I think he's thrown 40TDs to 6Ints. What do do you guys think about maybe taking him at our pick if he's there. Post.

If he falls to us, the Jets would be stupid to pass on Smith.

I would probably do it... His value is around 10-15, so it should be around where we are. I would only do it if we have a new GM that has a clear plan and is dedicated to developing a young QB, along with an innovative OC.

Pairing Smith with Chip Kelly would be interesting to say the least...

Geno has good arm strength, great pocket awareness, very good accuracy, is very dedicated and has plus athleticism (although not on RG3's level obviously). He's not an eltie prospect, but is a good one.

Geno Smith isn't elite but he's close to a sure thing

Pocket poise, release, arm strength and makes every throw

He'd need to be in the right offense however

Not only does he have most of the physical skills (pretty much everything besides an elite arm, although it is very good), but he's a refiner of his craft.

Scouts questioned his pocket presence, ability to read a defense and touch on the ball coming into this year. I would say he's answered them pretty damn well. He's tough and can hang in there while making a throw and has good athleticism to maneuver in and out of the pocket. He goes through his reads and makes good decisions- only 6 interceptions on the year, and finally he's definitely improved his touch on his throws.

For some reason Geno Smith gets a bad rap around here... Maybe because everyone is scared of another QB bust and the fact that he isnt on Luck's or RG3's level. I would definitely say he's above Tannehill though- especially in terms of experience and ability to read a defense. They have similar athleticism and good arms... Just because he's not elite doesnt mean he cant be a franchise QB.

I don't know. I'm not entirely sold on Smith, but there are easily worse options. No way he falls to the Jets anyway.

Geno Smith is a good choice to pick a QB.....just he isn't a 1st overall type of pick which is going to be his huge problem even though he can't control that. Can he play up to the Newton/RG3 level that KC or whoever will expect of him because that's the ceiling people want him to reach?

Geno Smith I think needs to be raised in a stable situation where he won't right away be "The Man" and have to win teams games....ease him in a spot. KC is perfect for him since he doesn't have to do a whole lot right off the bat. Oakland or NYJ on the other hand would not be good choices....neither really readies up their QBs to succeed or have the talent on offense to make Geno Smith comfortable.

Tyler Wilson is a better QB for what we are looking at....his lone problem is concussion history and that he never truly shined at Arkansas....even though that's more on Arkansas more than anything(Think like Jay Cutler and Vandy)

I agree that it wouldnt be ideal for Smith to come in here right away due to the lack of overall talent, but I think he could be a very good QB for us in the future. Who knows, maybe you do something like Miami did (or tried to do) and get a Vet to go in their year one or part of year one so he can still learn. Geno Smith has a lot of experience though so, compared to Sanchez, him starting year 1 wouldnt be as terrible.

With the right GM and OC, I would really like to see what Geno Smith could do. Before this franchise tries again at QB, we need a true GM and not some bean counter. We also need an innovative OC that doesnt run some gimicky bullshit vanilla offense. If those two things are in place, I might be inclined to try our luck at QB again and Smith would be a very good option for us if he was there at our pick.

I'd prefer not to draft another 1st round QB and throw him into the fire right away. Given that Smith is a tier below the great prospects and maybe a tad below the really good ones I'd rather pass on him in the 1st.

If the Jets can manage some trade downs and he falls to the end of the 1st/beginning of the 2nd he's more interesting but he'd still get thrown into the fire too quickly.

If you're going to take a Geno Smith you'd better get a really good staff in here to work with him. You'd need a strong offensive coordinator with a rep for developing QB's and a new QB coach at a minimum.

I'm not a fan of taking a QB in the first. BUT if he's still on the board and Te'o, Warmack and Matthews are gone. go for it.

I would love it, but he will never make it to our pick.

To be honest, if we're going to draft a QB this year, I'd like it to be Wilson. If not, I'd rather wait for the better crop of QBs next season.

This draft reminds me of 2011's QB class (minus Newton). A lot of subpar QBs who will end up being overdrafted and some solid projects who can be had in the second round.

Last 2 drafts I say Geno is

    Below Luck, Griffin, Newton

    Tied with Wilson

Slightly above Dalton, Kaepernick, Locker and Tannehill

No way Smith gets past Kansas City, unless KC goes with Teo, but if they do that then he'll never make it past Buffalo and Arizona and he's definitely not worth trading up for.

QB's are different when it comes to the draft. I think in the end Smith goeas to KC at #1. The Jets nees to get an outside pass rusher in round 1, after that they can pick all offense.

I'm more in favor of waiting for the 2014 draft to get our QB 'for the future', use this upcoming draft to start filling our other problem positions. To me Geno Smith is a product of the conference(s) he was playing in, no defense, all offense. When he came under a little pressure he didn't do as well. Those 5 straight losses in conference brought him down to earth and showed some weaknesses. I just think we need to be careful with our QB selection and not go for the 'sure fire, can't miss' pick.

I'd be psyched if the Jets could get Smith. I don't think he will last though.

I think Geno Smith is going to a very good NFL QB. I think he's underrated because of last year's QB.. Sure, I don't think his future is as bright as Griffin or Luck's but those guys are rare.

He's proud to be a football "nerd" and a film "junkie" which is truly a great attibute I like in a young QB. His coach has called him "the most competitive guy I've ever been around"- not most competitive player, most competitive guy - that's what I would like to hang my team's future on.

-He falls into category of Bill Parcells' school of QB drafting (started multiple years, playing through his senior year, in a major CB conference, in his case 2 conferences.) I don't think it should be understated, how tough it is to switch conferences and still be the top QB in both conferences.

-He practically carried last year's team to an orange Bowl victory on his back. That offseason they lost a lot of players and staff and it was quite tumultuous. He was also the ONLY scholarship QB on the roster.

-He's big and strong and has experience in Poor Weather - I think he could navigate the Meadowlands' winds and Buffalo/NE weather games as well.

He's not going to WOW anyone with his athleticism but I could see him having an impact similar to Russell Wilson's and a future that translates to a long and productive NFL career - maybe a Donovan McNabb-like or a more athletic Drew Bledsoe like career.
