The Patriots traded Brandon Cooks for a 1st Round Pick, now they have 2 and people have started speculating that they could trade up for a QB. I find that ridiculous since their picks are not even good (#23 and #31 overall). It got me thinking: What would it really cost to move up to #1 or #2 overall? Clearly some teams would want to: (Buffalo, Denver, Arizona, Miami, etc) How much would it cost though? I really don't know, so was wondering if any draft people do? The Jets traded 3 2nd Rounders (and a 1st Rounder as @abyzmul would want me to point out) to move up 3 spots. So moving to #1 or #2 would cost more than that. A lot more. Another factor is Cleveland clearly needs a FQB, so they won't want to trade and the Giants want an impact player so doubt they want to drop too far in the draft. So what would it take for those main teams (Bills, Dolphins, Cardinals, Broncos and even Pats) to move up? I assume even with the #3 pick the Jets would have to pay a lot to move to #2, so it might be more than ever. Thoughts?
I think if it could've been done - within the bounds of Macc's pocketbook - he would've done it. And the cost for anyone else to do it would seem too high. The only scenario where I see the 1 & 2 picks changing hands is if the Giants swap the #2 to the Browns for their #4 and some other premium picks. This assumes the Giants don't want Barkley or a QB however, and I think that's a bad assumption. I think the first 4 picks are: 1. Browns - Darnold 2. Giants - Allen 3. Jets - Rosen 4. Browns - Barkley I can easily see picks 2 & 3 going Rosen then Allen.
More than it is worth. We have no assets left worth a trade-up except our 1st rounder next year. But that depends upon your perspective. I do not see much difference in value between the big 3 of Mayfield, Rosen and Darnold but I do see a huge cliff like drop off after those 3. So at least from my perspective picking third is a very good spot. The Jets must feel they very comfortable with at least 3 QBs to have traded up to 3 and likely have very high grades on all 3. That does not mean they do not value one or even 2 higher but it does say they really like at least 3.
I don’t think the Browns pick is for sale. The Giants pick could be possibly but I don’t think it’s likely. Only way I see them moving the pick is if they decide they’re not interested in going QB and a team like the Broncos decides to move up for a QB, maybe the Bills if they do get higher than 12. All very doubtful in my eyes. I think the Browns, Giants, Jets make the first 3 picks then all hell may break loose.
Makes sense to me. Logical Top 4. Yeah, true. I guess I was just wondering what it would cost for someone to jump the Jets into the Giants or possibly Browns' spot. Yeah, agreed. Someone is going to reach early for the 5th and 6th QB's (Rudolph and Jackson) too I bet.
The first 2 picks are priceless this year IMO. Browns need a FQB and can get the QB of their choice at 1 and the Giants could take Eli's successor or Barkley/Chubb at 2.
agree the browns need a QB in a QB rich draft why would i trade out of it for a first next year in a bad QB class in 2019? its a bit useless.
I'd be shocked because I'd expect Brady to retire if he was traded to the Browns and I doubt the Giants want him at age 42. I'm guessing the Pats are targeting Mason Rudolph with the 23 or even a bit of a trade up to get him.
C'mon maaaaaan You seriously think a guy in the discussion for G.O.A.T.** would agree to play for some shitty team at this stage?!? I'm hoping my sarcasm detector is malfunctioning on this one....
Rumor has it that they are going to move Gronk before the draft. I think that gives them ammunition. I'm guessing if they trade up it's for Barkley. They just signed Niklas at TE. Very good run blocking TE.
Browns trade for Brady he backs up Tyrod. Did the new heroin supply come in? Lots of wild posts on here lately.
The Pats did a lot of trading up last year. I guess it is possible they'll do that again, however that would presage Belichik's likely retirement at the end of the 2018 season. He knows what happens to teams that short the draft over time.
Is Gronk really going to bring in a trade haul? How likely is it that he'll ever play a full season again?
If moving up to 1 was feasible, we would have done it. The Giants never have and never will trade with the Jets, so we can forget above moving up to Number 2. I wouldn't be opposed to moving up to 1, but I think that would have happened by now if that was our ultimate goal. Maccagnan and others have a much better idea than any fan, beat writer or draft "expert" in terms of what Cleveland and the Giants are thinking of doing at 1 and 2 and he must be confident in getting a QB he covets at 3. They must like 3, they have to, otherwise they wouldn't have made the deal. That or they know the Giants aren't trading and won't go QB, unless Allen goes 1, and they're fine with that as well.
The Browns were never going to trade the #1 pick in any deal for the #6 pick. They might well trade it in a deal including the #3 pick however I don't think the Johnson brothers would support that deal. It would essentially force their hand in dealing with Mac and Bowles for the next few years, since it would be hard to sell the GM and HC jobs to anybody with the Jets 1st and 2nd picks for 2019 already gone and a likely bust at QB for the Jets. The scenario would be very high risk, likely outweighing the potential reward. If the pick worked everybody is ok but if it failed...
Yeah, that is a good point. Still wondering what it would cost for other teams to jump the Jets to #1 or #2 though. I guess it would be a fortune.
For what reason? To draft a FQB? After they just gave one away? If they wanted Brady's replacement why didn't they keep Garoppalo? Then they would have one and the picks.
