I think there is a bit of a disconnect on what people think is 'fair' compensation for Revis. Understanding what we all think is 'fair' is key to understanding each other when discussing the contract situation. Please select the highest number range you feel comfortable with from the point of view of the team, alternatively select the lowest number you would feel comfortable with from the point of view of the player. In other words, just try to be as precise as possible. Here are my dollar ranges for each option. 1. Current Contract - 3 years $21M 2. Bandaid - 3 years $24-27M - This would add somewhere between $3-5M to his current contract. 3. Short term best contract(ignoring Aso) - 3 years $27.5-30M - This would put him slightly above everyone but Aso. 4. Short term Bump over the rest of the field - 3 years $36-40M - This puts him $3M per year over the rest of the field. 5. Short term Aso+$1 - 3 years $46.1M 6. Long term contract #3 - 6 years $54-60M 7. Long term #5 - 6 years $72-80M 8. Long term Aso+1$- 6 years $92.1M 9. I like beer - You don't care how much Revis' contract should be. This is my first shot at a poll. I hope I don't hose it up too much.
1) this is a useless thread as there is already a LONG Revis holdout thread 2) the real issue isn't total comp, its garaunteed money
1) I can't/don't want to attach a poll to that thread. 2) We can't have a reasonable discussion about the guarantee until we know the total $s. 3) Vote 9.
He's better than Aso, and probably deserves more money, but this isn't the Raiders. If he wants to play for the Jets, he's going to have to lower his demands. I said 6 years at $80 million. I think that's fair market value for him.
This whole scale may change for multiple reasons in the future. If the salary cap is lowered by the new CBA higher yearly pay will hurt badly. Peyton Manning's contract may adjust the overall NFL contract view. He should get the biggest contract in NFL history. That would set the contract values for top flight players at the various positions. For example, I've seen a percentage get thrown out there for the relative forth of a CB to a QB (75%) contract. If Manning get in excess of $107M then the $80M 6year contract value becomes low. If Manning takes less $96M then option 8 becomes too high. In retrospect I should have just stuck to yearly salary ranges and left out the long/short term differentiator.
I'd love to see 7, but I don't think it's realistic at this point. I think he comes in for the top end of #3, a bump to around $10 -$12 million per season over the life of his current contract.
If Revis thinks he is getting 15-16 a season he is really on crack. The Raiders totaly screwd the entire "highest paid CB" thing here when Nasi got 14. No corner....NO corner should be paid more than 10-11 a year. I say....ok sit out, dont earn another yeat towards free agency (per contract) dont get your 1 million or also earn another year towards the the 10 and 12 you will be earning the next 2.......SIT YOU BABAY!!!! We will all se on AUG 10th; he will be out there...WATCH
6 years 83.5 million with 35 guaranteed. Make him earn the rest with performance based incentives. I don't want to see him pull a nig move like haynesworth/Rhodes and stop giving a shit about football
You're right.. I prob shouldn't have used that term. My point is the same though, regardless of race. I think darrelles letting this get to his head/ego and is looking for a giant contract so he's set for life and football becomes secondary. I'm questioning his love for the game, though holding out is his only bargaining tool I guess.
6 year extension,80 mil. (on top of his current deal.) 101 mil total, 30 Mil SB = 31 this year (with givebacks if a future holdout occurs). 5 Mil 15 Mil = 50 mil over 3 = more than Aso. Now you have 50 mil to spread over the next 6 years. As Cb$$$ goes up his deal will look like a bargain, and he's a Jet for life.
Wow! Proabably should not have used that term? Really dude that is just pathetic! With respect to questioning his love for the game, this is not a game, this is his job and how much he feels he should be compestated for performing his duties.
He signed the deal...if he was in the last year I'd have some sympathy but dude still has 3 years left on the deal. It's not like made a million on the 1st few years of the deal either.
Well, it is a game. I don't want you guys to think I'm some white supremacist skinhead. If the guy lands a giant contract with huge guaranteed money up front and tanks it for the rest of his career because 'pay da man' came to fruition, then he's taken advantage of the organization, his fans, and his teammates. The same applies if I called him a white trash scumbag, money-grubbing wetback, etc. I used the term in jest but it's significance in society is as strong as calling a woman a cunt, so the reaction is warranted and I suppose expected. Sorry.
6 yr, $72-$80 million. As said by many others, he's just ridiculously talented. Hopefully a deal doesn't hamper the Jets cap too much moving forward.
