If you were to point to ONE moment of their reign and said "THAT is what Herm and Bradway were all about", what moment would you pick??
Baltimore game in 04. Not the Lamont pass but at the end of the game as they were driving near the goal line, they had to call a TO because Hackett didnt have a play ready. Of course they were unable to score and lost the game when time ran out.
The Giants overtime game. I barely remember the particulars except that we were lining up for 65 yard fgs or something. We had that game won like 4 times and still lost.
Herm's "This is how the Jets win" diatribe after the K.C. loss in '05. It ended up being all talk, no action. Herm and his staff had no ability to execute on their big words.
End of regulation in the playoff game against the Steelers. We take a knee (losing a yard) to setup a 47(?) yard FG attempt rather than try and pickup a few more yards for a higher percentage kick. Don't we play to win the game Herm?
For me: it would be the Baltimore game last year, when they refused to take the cuffs off Bollinger and let him play. Herm showed ZERO confidence in his quarterback, which did irreprarable damage. When Herm said that any series that involved the Jets punting was a good one, I KNEW that the offensive mentality of the past three years came as much from HERM as it did from Hackett.
"We Will Not Quit" Press release before the Chargers game. We went on to win the division after that electric moment at home against Green Bay.
Not being aggressive and settling for a field goal against Pittsburgh in the playoff game. That's my pick. Nobody asked, but I'll also list the other ones that really bothered me: Patriots at Jets game in 2001 (that game started the Patriots on their way) Ravens at Jets game in 2004 Jets at Ravens game in 2005
There really are so many - but I have to agree that the nail in the coffin for the Bradway-Edwards regime was the decision in the Pittsburgh playoff game to take a loss before attempting the game winning FG. Not only does that put into perspective the true personna of the Coach and GM, but in the aftermath the blame was shifted to the kicker to try and avoid taking responsibility for the call and the result. Shifting of blame is really the theme for the prior regime - and that's why I vote for this incident as the one that is most emblematic of the Bradway-Edwards era.
Okay kicking a field goal against Pittsburgh Testaverde INT to Buckley screwing up the end of the game against the Ravens vanilla gameplan against Ravens
Everything that happened from, the final drive to the end of the game in the 2004 playoff loss to Pittsburgh. They went about things the wrong way, and it cost the win. As sure as those coaches appeared to be about what they were doing, they were wrong, and it cost 53 guys a shot at the division title. Should have gotten as close as humanly possible to those uprights......damn it.
