Before we get started, yes I know its early but the draft talk is always fun. Anyway.... RB always seems to be a weird position for the Jets, it looks like we have a solid RB core then it looks like we dont, etc. Next year we are going to lose LT and IMO I think McKnight, unless he shows something this year, could be cut. That would leave us with Greene and Powell, not a terrible combo by any stretch but it really lacks a homerun hitter/ pass catching back. James has shown that he can dominate the run game in college and also shows he can receive (although he was showcased as more of a feature back than dump off back). Next year I believe he will come out and will be drafted somewhere between rounds 1 or 2, if he is there when the Jets pick would you draft him to have a one two punch of Greene and James? I understand this depends on whos there at OLB and WR and what round it is but without the crazy intangibles what would your opinion be about drafting him?
I think (and I'll preface this by saying I basically am an ignoramus when it comes ot this), I think he'd be drafted too high for us to grab him. We need help in other areas before RB
I wouldnt say that he'd be drafted too high, unless there are plenty RB hungry teams, which there arent (Bengals, Rams, Skins, and Broncos are the only teams that I can think of but they have bigger needs) . I say he goes late 1st to mid 2nd round, teams will most likely pick Trent Richardson over James because of weight and worries about being a feature back. Im just saying in if were no WRs available and OLB's and James was there would you draft James?
how is this a thread fail at all.....? Dude, its a legitimate question. I can see how drafting a RB in the first isnt a Jet priority but he is one of the top RB prospects in the draft and if he fell too us he would have a nice amount of value. Its the draft forum, questions and threads like this come up all the time. Its not that unfathomable at all... its not like we have Adrian Peterson at RB and this is a thread wanting to draft his backup. We have Shonn Greene, who right now isnt exactly a top back. With the emphasis we have on the run drafting a sure fire RB is no joke. again, Im not making a campaign its just a simple question of opinion.. jesus christ.
I think you just answered your own question. Think about it, if he ends up being a late first rounder, that means we have to take him with our first pick. are we really going to draft a RB in the first when we will likely have much bigger needs? Especially after drafting a RB in the last 2 drafts in the mid-rounds who they still like? So I think if your projection of him is correct, he will go too high for us. Not that we wouldnt like him, but a RB that high (based on our current view) of things is just a bad plan. We still need a pass rusher, and we definately could use an impact safety, OL help, and next year we absolutely will be desperate for youth at the WR position. Maybe FA can solve that problem, but I think the draft (especially with the stellar talent) may be a better option...
Two VERY big assumptions right there.... and no I wouldn't draft a RB that high considering our system & needs.
Looks like he will be a second-rounder or somewhere in that vicinity. With a pick that high.. hell no. RB is not a need and McKnight will not get cut. I think Jets priority needs in order of importance: 1. OLB 2. WR 3. OL If there is an opportunity at landing a top-flight receiver Tanny should pull the trigger, otherwise keep building the defense and fortifying the trenches.
The Jets should go after a WR or offensive lineman depending on where we're picking. Most likely at the back end of the first - we should be able to find a talented receiver in this deep class. The Jets need a young #2 across from Holmes. I think James is incredibly dangerous, but I see a lot of Spiller in him. I just don't think we should spend a first rounder on a player that will get about 10 touches a game. DJ Fluker would be a great fit here. Dude's a mauler. I'd like to see the Jets take a playmaker early and then go after one of the Wisconsin linemen in the mid round. Those guys always seem to fall and they are usually solid pro linemen.
He certainly would, he needs to go to a team dedicated to running the ball constantly. I'm still not sold on his pass protection though, it all whittles down to his footwork and lack of experience(4th year playing OL ever). He takes too many steps, allowing the DE to "steer" him and also has struggled in the past to anchor against bullrushers. That said, his athleticism is off the charts for his size, there is so much dormant potential. I think he should stay his last 2 years to become a complete RT, but money talks. He should be one of the most impressive lineman at the Combine, he ran an electric 4.9 at 6-6, 350 at a Nike camp out of HS...
I stated it as a possibility not so much of a campaign to cut him but too be honest its not out of the realm of possibility, just an idea my man.
