According to Cimini, Sanchez is on his way to New York today. Since we know it's not for the draft, what exactly is he heading in for? This could get interesting.

That would be my assumption. Given that kffl is reporting that our 17th pick will be used on either Freeman, Heyward-Bey, or Pettigrew unless we trade, I hope it's to meet with the team.

  5. For now I'll call this typical NY sports rumor roller coaster.

We saw it 3 years ago w/ the rumored trade up for Bush, and than possible trade up for Cutler..and we even saw it last year w/ the rumored trade up for Flacco. I'll wait for Saturday to come to draw any conclussions

Way to rich for my blood right there. We're essentially forced to use our 3rd on a single one of our need positions and ignore the rest.

  8. I agree. Sanchez maybe a better bet...but I'd rather take a risk on freeman at # 17 and keep the rest of my picks than basically sacrifice our entire draft to take a risk on Sanchez. Think about it.

I'd rather NOT take Freeman and keep all 3 picks than either scenario. If we can swing Sanchez for two of those picks, I might do it, but only if the FO really isn't as confident in Clemens as they've been saying.

Maybe the Giants are interested? I mean come on its a trip to NY before the draft how many stupid interviews and commericals do you see on draft day. I thought we already had our 1 visit with him and weren't allowed another one anyway.

Twitter would have lowered him to a 5th round pick on Mangini's Big Board.

  12. My point was under the assumption that the FO isnt sold on Clemens. Sanchez is just as much of a risk as Freeman due to the limited number of starts and the surrounding cast he had at USC.

You're taking a gamble on either guy. Sanchez maybe a SLIGHTLY safer bet...but not by much IMO..and frankly Freeman has alot more upside. If the FO wants to take this kind of gamble, stay at # 17 or heck even trade down a few picks and take Freeman.

Agreed. The more I think about this the more I think we just stay put at 17.

if we can't get sanchez i think it would be better to go away from the qb position early this draft. get some solid guys to build on, hope clemens or ratty work out. if not we should have a nice high pick next year.

Looks like you're right. Here's an article from the Star Ledger that mentions it. Interesting what he says about the Skins going after him too - I hadn't heard that before.

    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/04/usc_quarterback_mark_sanchez_j.html

USC quarterback Mark Sanchez just said on a national conference call before boarding a plane to New York that he hasn't had any contact with the Jets since his private workout in California a few weeks ago. Sanchez is likely coming to New York for a promotional appearance for an EA Sports 2010 NCAA football video game. He declined an invitation to attend the draft.

"I haven't talked to them in a while so I don't know," said Sanchez when asked about the chances of the Jets trading up from the No. 17 spot to get him. "Maybe they don't even like me anymore. Who knows.

"They try to hold their cards and you can't get too much out of them. They offer you, and this holds true with every team, you ask them a question and they kind of answer them halfway and then say, 'but I don't know what's going to happen.'

"It's difficult to ready anybody. But I had a great time with them, as I did with all the teams. When they worked me out a while back, things looked good and sounded good, but I just don't know what's going on.''

Sanchez, projected as a top 10 pick, said the neon lights of New York appeals to him because it reminds him of Los Angeles. He has visited the 49ers, Rams, Lions and Redskins. The Redskins are rumored to be poised to trade up from No. 13 to make a run at him. And Redskins owner Daniel Synder usually gets with he wants.

Landing Sanchez appears to be a long-shot for the Jets, who like him and Kansas State's Josh Freeman. Freeman may well be on the board at No. 17.

The Jets best chance to get Sanchez would be to go up to the eighth slot -- where the Jaguars may be looking to slide down. But it would cost the Jets second- and fourth-round picks to do so in addition to their 17th selection, according to the NFL draft-chart. That's almost their entire draft.

It seems unlikely the Jets would be willing to do that, especially with three young quarterbacks -- Kellen Clemens, Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge -- already on the roster.
