...did not fire Douglas and Saleh because he will announce this week that he is selling the team and did not want to encumber the new owner with another round of his mistakes?
People really need to jettison (heh) the idea that Woody Johnson is ever selling this team. He isn't. First of all, it's a cash cow just with compound interest alone, even if the Jets never win another game. It's a big market team that balances out revenue of lesser market teams. He has an idiot brother involved, a second wife, and kids who will inherit. Most of all, he rubs elbows with other owners in an exclusive club. It's an ego stroke, it makes him feel important, dunce cap notwithstanding. The Maras took him for ride and laugh behind his back and so does everybody else, but there's absolutely no incentive for him to let go of this team. None.
That'd be amazing but will not happen for reasons already stated. Easy money regardless of if we win or not so he doesn't have to try. And it's a status thing. Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk
Johnson bought the Jets for 635 million in 2000. Today they are worth 4.05 billion. He isn't selling. NFL teams are cash cows especially a big market team like the Jets.
What if i won the lottery? Probably a better chance of that happening than a guy who is still making money hand over fist after 13 years of putting the worst product on the field in American sports giving up that goldmine to go do something where results might matter.
Just read Harbaugh hasn't signed his extension with MI yet. What if Woody put $300M/10yrs on the table for the newly created VP of Football OPs position?
The bitch of it all is he is no longer the biggest moron in the "owners club." I firmly believe that Tepper, down in Carolina, has quite succinctly yanked that title away. Got to be honest, thank all that is holy that he didn't buy the Jets. There would have been full Hari Kari on 5th Avenue. I've got them ranked as Shitty Owner 1a (Tepper) and 1b (Woodruff)...
A year or two too late anyway. He shoulda sold the team to Josh Harris the new Commanders owner. The Jets would have a much brighter future personally I think woody is the type to hold onto something until he dies as if he can take it with him to the afterlife
Here's an article that explains how Harris plans to set up the new management system in Washington. I think he must have been reading posts here for the last five or ten years. /www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2024/01/08/josh-harris-commanders-coaching-search/
The new Wash owner is doing the same mistake the jets have made. Hiring a firm to search for a coach before hiring a GM to make that decision. These firms end up picking their buddies or people they want to get jobs.
yeah, well we will see if it’s a mistake. Harris is a 100 times better than Woody. He has deep pockets that he’s not afraid to use, a desire to win football games, and experience owning a major sports franchise. All 3 is something woody doesn’t have
I think you have him confused with Tepper in Carolina who has hired a search firm to find a coach. The plan for Harris is explained in the link to the Washington Post up just a couple of posts here.
to be fair - i dont think woody is cheap when it comes to dishing out cash for players. Harris bought a NJ devils team that was already a ESt. franchise. I dont know anything about basketball
