This might be one of the worst stretches in NY Sports. This century has started off as pure crap for NY teams winning championships.

Sure the Yankees have 1x, and Giants have 2x in NFL...But thats really it! For a town with probably one of the most Sports teams in the US of A we are a big disappointment since 2000.

There has been a lot of heartbreak this century...So much teasing with the NY teams, Knicks with their abundance of trades hyping us up and all turning out to be garbage, Mets with their collapses, Yankees losing heartbreakers in WS and to Sox, Rangers losing right at the end, our Jets falling apart in their AFC Champ runs, Giants winning it and then resorting back to a horrible season, Islanders are perennial losers.

There have really been NO ELITE NY SPORTS TEAMS this century. The Yankees and Giants had single individual great seasons IN THE PLAYOFFS and then lost it.

As a big NY Rangers fan, I have been super bummed out lately...And right now hope in all my teams feels all lost.

    When does it change?

it changes when management changes. The Mets have Alderson running the show and are showing signs of building a winner

The Knicks have Dolan interfering so that will never change until he stops meddling

did Woody hire the right duo? we'll see.

NYR has been good b/c they allow Sather to run the show

The Nets are run by buffoons

The Isles are stabile now and turning it around

Nets need to clean house before they ever compete for anything ever again. Hopefully we hit a Golden Age like Boston did ... seems like the Mets / Jets / Knicks are staying the course and should be good teams as long as they continue to make the right moves. Rangers, Yankees will continue to be good teams.

The New York lack of championships can be directly attributed to poor ownership and leadership. You have Owners more concerned with winning the back pages than anything else. You have GM's that have to keep owners happy and put a product on the field that sells tickets. At the end of the day, it comes down to how much money is made annually by a particular franchise. A successful season used to be judged by championships. Now? Its judged by profit. Woody Johnson himself once said: "You can never have enough Tebow".

Alderson knows the clock is ticking on the Mets. He knows one day he's gonna have to dismantle the young guns unless Citi Field starts selling out PDQ. The only reason why he won't trade pitching for hitting is because he knows he can't afford to pay both. The Yankees have the value, but now they got religion when it comes to home grown talent. The Giants just can't seem to make the right moves to field a champion.

The Knicks? They remind me of the Mets when Joan Payson owned the team. Just can't get out of their own way as long as Dolan is running the show. Unless Dolan pulls a dumb assed move like Sterling did, the Knicks are doomed period. Phil Jackson is stealing his money and Derek Fisher should still be an assistant. The idea of resurrecting the "Triangle Offense" is a pipe dream you sell to a desperate and stupid Owner. The NBA is no longer a system oriented.

All in all, NY Sports is stuck in the twilight zone of Mediocrity. We Jet Fans have grown used to it...

I think a lot of it has to do with the fans. Lots of negativity in NY.

Outside of the Yanks, which New York team has a history of winning championships regularly that this stretch has differed from? And even the Yanks have gone long stretches without winning in the past.

Jets? Mets? Knicks? Isles? Rangers? Who? What is different for any of these teams?

Seems you have an idea of New York teams winning regularly that doesn't exist.

the yankees get a free pass for life to suck with me. they've been to 11 world series and won 7 of them in my lifetime. theyvre brought me a ton of joy in the past and alot to be proud about, oddly, the 2001 team being my favorite one of all even though they lost.
the giants, who im not a fan of, have gotten it done too, outside of those two teams, the rest are all scared of success, except the isalnders who did win 4 cups in a row and lost in their bid for a 5th, pretty impressive even though abe lincoln was in office when it happened.
they're life drainers, and im still smartin' from last friday nights tank job god damnit!
that being said, if the rangers and jets are my biggest woes, id say im doing pretty fuckin' good.

4 championships in 15 years is not bad at all

Another thing to take into account is the expansion of pretty much every pro league. There are far more teams in every league now, which means more competition

Besides, as another poster stated, there weren't that many franchises who were consistently competing for championships besides the Yankees
