I know our needs are offensive line and RB is not an urgent need. BUT... C Martin is pretty much done. and Houston will be an awesome backup. I see Marroney as a better value pick than Mangold if they are both available. I like him even better than De Angelo Williams... What say you??

I would take him over Mangold at 29 but I think I would take a guy like Carpenter over Maroney..

Marooney is one hell of a RB and I think that he will be a good pro but the thing that people knock him about is Minnesota's rushing system.
It is like Denver's so even though he had plenty of yards, you know that whoever you put back there will gain tons of yards like the Broncos.
I dont think that you can pass up Mangold for Marooney though.

IMHO if we rebuild the line this draft and get a QB (and bench next season) we can wait to get our next franchise running back next season. The trio of Blaylock, Houston, and Martin will be just fine. I think Martin has one or two good seasons left...he has been playing hurt for so long I think the break at the end of the season will be good for him.

What's the point in having Maroney if we don't have anyone to block for him. Mangold is considered the best center in the draft, and he would fill a HUGE hole. Build the foundation to the house first, then put in the fancy furniture.

I see where a lot of posters want to pass on the franchise QB this season for next. I would hate to think that we will be drafting in the top 5 again next year. I don't like paying the house to trade up for one guy ala the GIANTS.. and I feel that the linemen can come in the later rounds, late 3rd ( comp pick) and beyond. I will be very shocked if Martin can hit for 4 yards per rush this year. with the line in this condition. The future is now...

this is true in building houses for sure... but I don't recall the names of anyone who blocked for Barry Sanders all those years.. I bet if we checked, a host of people chipped in. The point is, some backs, (young, smart, healthy, fast ones) can compensate for a average to poor line..

IMHO, the Jets are very high on these two centers they picked up. One is in Europe and the other one they got off SF practice squad. Why else would they just cut Mawae? His cap number was not that high, he is healed from his injury and is still better than 75% of the centers out there.

    I agree.

If Matt Leinart is there, and we do not take them, then I have a problem. If we deal down, and get a kings ransom, then maybe I can live with it, but if he's there, and we select Williams, Ferguson or Hawk man will I go nuts.

When it comes to #29, I think we'd have to address the line. I'd almost address the line on #29 and #35, but at leastone, that's for sure.

I'm in the "build from the inside out" school so I say I'd rather have a lineman than a runner. Not to mention the fact that I think Maroney sucks.

Good stuff....lol. What some people fail to realize with Minnesota, all of their running backs over the past 3 years have done very well......Barber, Maroney and Russell.......a product of their system. I'd rather have Deangelo at #29, but he will be gone in the midteens. Joseph Addai may be the better option at #29, if we are looking at a running back. The Colts and Steelers are very interested in the LSU RB, Joe recently visited both teams.

I'll be watching B. Calhoun to see where he ends up. The 29 slot may be too high but I think he's gonna tear it up in a couple of years. His 15 yard pops inside the red zone amazed me and his ability to dodge the clean hit to stay healthy is a natural gift. Great hands out of the backfield and great speed will tempt some coaches to turn him to WR but size will keep him at RB. The Jets will be forced to think RB sooner rather than later. By the end of preseason I think they will be scrambling for a insurance back.

Im thinking we might just do better to wait it out until next year, and draft a guy like Marshawn Lynch

I agree with that. Keep in mind that the RB can be brought in through free agency or trade too. Last season, shaun alexander and edge could have been taken by any team for a third round pick. I think we should concentrate on filling all of our holes in the trenches, and then work something out next season with a free agent, trade, or draft.

Couple things. I doubt Maroney will be there at 29. And what is this talk about Houston being an 'awesome backup' the jury is still out on this guy, if i had to pick I would say that he wont amount to anything special. I only say this looking at the average careers of sixth round Rb's

The RB of choice after Bush would be DeAngelo Williams, He is projected as getting picked somewhere around the 15-21 range. Maroney is considered the next best RB who some predict in the 28-30 range. After that is LenDale White and im not sold on him at all, Im actually really disappointed and would be dissappointed if the Jets drafted him. Later in the draft there are p s like Joseph Addai from LSU, Maurice Drew UCLA, and Brian Callouhn from Wisconsin. Addai is the best from this bunch...very fast and has a quick burst, I would love to see the Jets get this guy...they will have to trade down in the second round though because 35 is too early to get him. Jerrious Norwood wouldnt be a bad pick in the 4th round either.

Maroney is an OK p and really excelled in a system that was built for him, I dont think he is going to have nearly the carrear in the NFL as he did in college and I would look elsewhere in the draft to find a RB.

Houston was first or second round talent. He dropped to the sixth round because of a thyroid condition. Now that the condition has been treated, I see him excelling in the running game. Just look at what he did last season when finally given a chance. And keep in mind, we had 3rd stringers on the OL, and nobody respected our passing game.

fair enough.... I may have overstated houstons worth.. but I do feel that he is capable of capturing the #2 RB position over blaylock... Maroney could very well be there at 29... either way.. Mangold or Maroney, I think a good choice.. Lendale white on the other hand....... RUN AWAY!!!!!
