How about a TE in the 1st round? We've been snake bitten before, but this kid just looks incredible! With a rebuilding process started and almost a lock for a new QB - how about giving him a nice safety blanket(a gamebreaking one at that)? Trade down, use the extra picks to bolster our needs. Vernon in the 1st, Eslinger in the 2nd, QB and a T in the third. BPA after that. Who's up for it?

I'd like an all around tightend if we're taking one at FOUR. Not another fragile pass catching can't block Kellen Winslow.

I actually like Joel Dreesen alot...he could develop into a good pass catching TE...

We have some bigger holes to fill on the team...

QB, RT, LG, NT just to name a few

Jay Cutler is the one at 4.

Problem is Boobway traded our #1 last year for a tight end and a #2. That's investing some high picks back to back at the same position.

Wrong...he traded DOWN in the draft and aquired the Raiders second round pick and Doug Jolley along with a couple of 6th round picks...those 6th rounders actually turned out to be good picks for us.

If Mangini and Tannenbaum are to do this right they have to make their decisions outside of what Boobway did. As a Jets fan I could care less about whether or not we already invested in any position. I want a winning organization in less than 3 yrs and I don't care how they go about doing it.

PS - Get that bum Jolley out of here ASAP

Vernon Davis is incredible, no doubt. But we have lots of positions of need higher than TE.

But wouldn't we be filling more positions of need by trading down and getting more picks?

This is a relatively deep draft. Can def get a QB and multiple OL outside of the 1st rd

What do I think about Vernon Davis? He's very nearly the most overrated player in the draft. He's a nice TE, but given the straight up choice, there's no way I take him over Marcedes Lewis. No possible way. Sure he's got the track speed advantage and his bench numbers will be wildly impressive, but he's basically a WR playing TE, and at a hair over 6-1, that's not very uplifting. Give me Lewis, who won't wow you with track numbers, just plays the game and is constantly developing.

And there's no way he's even on the same planet at Kellen Winslow.

So would you guys consider a TE period in the 1st round be it Davis or Lewis(obviously with a trade down)

No, absolutely not. Lewis if he's there in the 2nd absolutely has to be looked at seriously, but beyond that, wait till a late pick. Dreesen can be a player in the league with some work, maybe add in a kid like Jeff King from VTech in the later rounds.

I could go for Vernon Davis. But I'll take Mangold instead of Eslinger

Can't we agree that our biggest need is a playmaker on offense?

I think a guy like Vernon Davis(Mercedes Lewis even) would make any QB that much better. Get a guy like Whitehurst and pair him up with either of those TE's - Look Out! It won't be the end of our problems, but boy would it be a great start.
