The vague “personal issues” and “not sure if he’ll be ready for Week 1” is all concerning…not sure if that other poster is right or not, but it’s definitely a weird situation. I think he makes the WR room stronger, so if he’s really going to be out an extended period of time or even potentially all year, then I guess that opens up room for one more of the undrafted guys who seem to be doing well assuming they put Davis on some kind of PUP or IR or some kind of “did not report” list…not sure how to protect a player like that since it doesn’t seem to be injury related Just a curious situation with no real info
No doubt we are a better team with Davis. If for some reason Davis wasn’t going to be available for any period, can’t let him eat a roster spot. Not sure what their options might be on that front as I don’t know what’s going on with him. But I’d want to keep both Brownlee and Gipson in that event.
I’m stunned! This helps out the cap situation though, right? idk if we’ll bring in anyone else though and we probably could use the “free”roster spot with the promising talent we gave
Seriously? Stunning turn here. Must have been something truly dire for this decision to happen before the start of the season. I wish the guy well and hope things work out for him..
Connor Hughes: #Jets WR Corey Davis talked to teammates last night and informed them his plans to retire. He’d been contemplating it for awhile. He was the ultimate professional during his tenure here. Always enjoyed talking to him. Wish him, his wife & two babies nothing but the best.
If I'm correct, this move would clear up 10.5M in cap space, meaning that we could be in play for another move. Mike Evans anyone???
wow must be serious. Dude has been on shit teams with shit QBs his whole career. he's finally on a SB ready team with a HOF QB and he retires right before the season? plus giving up 10.5mil? I hope he's ok. JD needs to make some calls on WRs IMO
Wow. I wish him well in his next steps. Bummer for the team though.. Still have decent depth at WR (and TE) but another addition to the room could be welcome. I wonder if Brownlee is good enough to step into a role if needed
Doesn't mention the fans... but he is a deep person. “For some time now I’ve been contemplating stepping away from the sport of football. This decision has not been easy. Although I am a deep person, I am a man of few words. I’ve been searching my heart for what to do and I feel that stepping away from the game is the best path for me at this time. I have more blessings than I could have ever imagined — I have an amazing family, a beautiful wife and two healthy children that I look forward to spending more time with. “I am truly grateful for all the opportunities I have had and will continue to have on my journey. Thank you to my family and friends and the Jets organization for supporting me through this process.”
Well that was interesting…I suspect there is something going on underneath this all as it seems so out of the blue, but hope he’s ok This now means our WR room could use some help…wonder if we go with the young guys that have been showing up in camp or if we go out and sign someone new…GW is great, but outside of him we have Lazard and Hardman as our #2 and #3, plus Cobb…it’s good that both Lazard and Cobb have played with Rodgers so they can hit the ground running and deliver, but it feels like we could use another proven guy I think guys like Evans or Adams would be amazing but I think those are far fetched in that we don’t really have the trade capital to go get them…but sure would look nice with either of those guys
Even with Davis I don't think the wide receiver room was as good as many claimed. Lazard has a history of drops and Hardman produced mediocre numbers with the best QB in the game. On top of that our depth is a couple of UDFAs.
