I was thinking about what can make this offense better then it was this year in 2016.We had two 1,000 yard plus recivers in Decker and Marshall,Ivory broke 1000 yards for the first time in his carrer and Fitz broke the Jets TD record .We finished 10th overall and It was the best offense we have had in many years but going foward what can help keep it at this level or take it to the next level? One of the questions right now is Ivory and Powell ,they are both free agents and Id like to see both of them back but theres a chance we look for answers elsewhere.TE is the position that comes to mind the most for me ,We need to get rid of Winslow and Cumberland and add a real pass catching threat next to Jace Amaro .A real TE on third down is huge and we may have won some games we lost had we had one .Devin Smiths second year is also a huge question mark going foward .There are plenty of good options in the 2016 FA class and its pretty deep talent wise between that and the draft we should be able to cut the dead weight and fill whatever holes we have .The O Line had a solid year but could use some depth ,Do we bring back Willie Colon?Do we draft o line in round 1?What should happen here?
I'm not worried too much about the offense. The offense played great this year. Upgrade the line for sure and get a tight end involved. We struggled this year for one main reason. We did not have a pass rush. Our LB corps is very slow and we can not get to the QB without blitzing.
You also can't go into the draft looking to solely fill needs in particular rounds. That's when you fail. The draft mindset needs to be the same as its been. BPA If in the first round your BPA on your board is a tackle, take the tackle.
The reality is the defense needs the most work. Yes revamp the line a little and bring in a TE but they really need to concentrate on young talent on D.
its always about the trenches. winters needs to be replaced, giacomini could be replaced. what we really need is an actual outside linebacker, but thats another thread.
Miller is/was very underutilized in Miami. Dual threat RB as well. Thomas could prob be had for our 3rd rounder.
Short of upgrading at QB, I dont really know. RT and RG can be upgraded, left side is probably ok for next season. Receiver and RB I think should absolutely be addressed in the draft. We're good at receiver now, but Marshall isnt getting any younger and giving your game managing QB as many solid receiving options possible cant hurt. I think Ivory is gone, so if RB is addressed in the 3rd or 4th, I wouldnt be mad
1. Amaro emerges as a solid pass catching tight end. Nobody expects Gronk. But Keller level would be good to go along with Decker/Marshall 2. Establish a solid #3 receiving threat. Be it Kerley or the emergence of Devin Smith 3. Powell continues to be a solid dump off threat out of the backfield 4. Shore up the o-line
Agree with that, the dual threat TE might be hard to find though, it least a real good one. I would like to see how they'd utilize Amaro in this offense. I think a speed back would be a much needed addition as well. Maybe a Darrin Sproles type of player.
A new RT and a RB who can stay healthy and grind out yards up the middle. a WR who can get deep on the perimeter. Decker is a dominant slot guy
Revamp the offensive line & add a slot receiver. There's no way you go into the season with Smith 100% guaranteed the job.
Well they obviously like him...just not sure if they will continue to use him as a WR or a TE type guy...he's a big bodied guy...so will he bulk up and work on blocking and his hands? It looks like they like him more as a TE/H-back. So that means you still need a speedy WR to get deep who can play on the perimeter.
